This oil painting in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal (Montreal Museum of Fine Arts) in Montreal, Canada is by James Aitken. He was a Scottish artist from Edinburgh and lived from 1847-1896. This scene of a view Niagara Falls from the American side was a near copy of the work of Scottish artist Church in 1872. Aitkin had not been to th United States when he painted it in 1887. It is fascinating to see the undisturbed natural Niagara Falls before automobiles, electricity and casinos.
