  1. Mali and Burkina Faso have always had some of the world’s richest gold fields since ancient times. Gold mining in that region dates back to over 1800 years. They supplied gold to most of the known world then (Romans; Egyptians; Assyrians; Persians; Nubians etc). They had some of the richest kings who have ever lived. How times change! Now this old, rich kingdom is now identified with extreme poverty; even though their gold is still being mined actively in vast amounts. What’s going on! ?

  2. I only got 3 right! I’m amazed that Burkina and Mali are the 9th and 10 largest gold producers. I’ve spent time in those countries, and the people there are among the dirt-poorest I’ve ever seen. Despite that, Malians are among the most friendly folk I’ve ever had the pleasure to move among 🙂

    • Never mind the score. Surely, its the learning that counts. Now. Regarding your query. Mali and Burkina Faso still have some of the world’s richest gold fields which have been operational since ancient times. Gold mining in Mali dates back to over 1800 years. The Kingdom of Mali supplied gold to most of the known world then (Romans; Egyptians; Assyrians; Persians; Nubians etc). They had some of the richest kings who have ever lived. How times change! Now this old, rich kingdom is identified with extreme poverty; even though their gold is still being mined actively in vast amounts. So what’s going on! ?
