From the earliest days, people watched the sky and tried to figure out what kind of “bright spots” on it. The first known astronomer was the Greek Ptolemy who lived in the 2nd century. He believed that the Earth was at the center of the universe and that the planets, the Moon and the Sun revolve around it. He also noticed that the stars were moving the right paths and that the planets were leaking. He explained this phenomenon by assuming that planets, apart from the orbits, move along small circles.
