Quiz: State Nicknames, Part Two

All of the states in the US have state nicknames and most of them have several. People in some states take great pride in their nicknames, for various reasons. Yet, not everyone knows the state nickname even for the state in which they live. People who don’t live in a state might not even know what the nickname of their own state is. It can be even more challenging to people who don’t live in the state and who have never visited it.

This quiz is another part of the first one. Remember that there are 50 states and most of them have multiple nicknames. As with the first quiz, I will give a state nickname, then give a list of three states. The challenge is to match the nickname with the state to which it belongs. It isn’t as easy as it sounds.

    • At one time, people were exposed to state nicknames quite often. That isn’t so much the case anymore. Now, the nicknames that are in the most common use are found on license plates and names of basketball/football teams (the Sooners, the Ducks, and the Tar-Heels, for example). The nicknames formerly had much more meaning.
