Learning About the U.S. State of Wisconsin

The first European explorer to the state was Frenchman Jean Nicolet in 1634. The French had control over this area until 1763 and then it was ceded to the British. The name of the state happens to be an English version of a French adaptation of an Indian name, meaning “the place where we live”. Wisconsin became the 30th state to join the Union. It is one of the top producers of milk, cheese, and butter and therefore earned the nickname of “America’s Dairy Land. It is home to the football team Green Bay Packers who call themselves “cheese heads”.
