It was in 1540 that Coronado, the Spanish conquistador explored the area that is today New Mexico looking for the fabled seven cities of gold. New Mexico is the 47th state that entered the Union. The state was part of the “Old West” and known for its cowboys and cattle drives. It is a state rich with artwork and culture influenced by the Apache Indians.
