Juma is the kiswahili word for week. Most of the names of days of the week start with Juma. The first day of the week is Sunday but in kiswahili they name their days beginning with Saturday. Its name starts with Juma then ‘mosi’ meaning one. Sunday is Juma then ‘pili’ meaning two. ‘tatu is three for Monday and ‘nne’ plus Juma is Tuesday. Wednesday is Jumatano. Tano means five. Then Thursday is Alhamisi and Friday is Ijumaa.

Very difficult language. Out of my range.
4/8, knew a lot of new words, super!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I just got one wrong – nice quiz, Meshack. Again I noticed some Arabic influence, but this time just on Thursday and Friday. What’s a little funny is that while Wednesday is Jumatano (=”Day 5″), Thursday is Alhamisi which is Arabic for “The fifth” 🙂 This is because Arabic day-names follow the Hebrew tradition of counting the Sabbath (Saturday) as the last day of the week.
I love the history you give. I think I should give more of these quizzes
Thank you for sharing new knowledge. Got it all correct. Happy Jumamosi!
You got something Sharon. Am grateful
