Guess the language!

Do you recognize languages right away? Or do you confuse Latin with Mandarin?

Let’s find out with this quiz!

I took some proverbs and expressions from their original languages to avoid mistakes. I don’t trust Google Translate, especially when the output language is very different from the input one.

Browsing sites with unfamiliar characters gave me headaches, but it was a cool experience.

I decided to not copy and paste but use images so you couldn’t cheat easily. I doubt you planned to cheat, but better to be safe than sorry.

Oh no, another proverb.

    • Thanks! I’m not a quiz expert so I really appreciate when I’m told the ones I made were entertaining. I hope to get the time and inspiration to make some more soon. ?

  1. I only managed 5 out of 10 which was a disappointment to me. The Icelandic/Danish one threw me because the two languages are so similar and telling the difference between Chinese, Japanese and Korean writing has always been difficult for me.

    • I think it’s a good result anyway. Yes, I think giving similar languages as options made it a little more difficult. Icelandic has more special characters compared to Danish, that was perhaps the only way to differentiate. Chinese and Japanese are very alike, they have many pictograms in common (kanji).

      • I wasn’t aware that Icelandic had more characters. My parents lived in Iceland for a bit and we had a couple of books in Icelandic. I used to love looking at it even though I didn’t have a clue what I was looking at.
