In one of my polls I touched a topic that happened to be interested to the majority, so I decided to extend it in to a quiz.

Tarot cards are used in many of European countries to play card games. In English-speaking countries, where these games are not played, tarot cards are used primarily for divination purposes. The tarot deck has 78 cards divided in two distinct parts:

-The Major Arcana (greater secrets), consists of 22 cards. These are: The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The Chariot, Strength, The Hermit, Wheel Of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man, Death,Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, The World, and The Fool. Cards from The Magician to The World are numbered in Roman numbers from I to XXI, while The Fool is the only unnumbered card.

-The Minor Arcana (lesser secrets) consists of 56 cards, divided into four suits of 14 cards each. The traditional Italian tarot suits are swords, wands, coins (pentacles) and cups.

  1. The first question. “Tarot is used for playing cards”. Nope. It’s used for divination. If it were used for playing cards then it wouldn’t be so taboo…. :-/

  5. how is it used as playing cards? the videos on youtube just show mini divination readings. i also noticed on youtube that actual playing cards can be used– Hearts, Diamonds, Spades, and Clubs are similar to each of the Tarot suits. and, i think spades are considered negative, while 9Hearts is the most positive card.

    • I have no idea…. Still, I remember when I was a child and we went to summer vacations in Dalmatia, locals played a strange card game with different card deck than usual. It didn’t look like classic tarot deck, but there were so many cards in it. And just to be noted, most of those people was of Italian descent…..
