Last week there was an some anxiety caused by a dog testing positive for corona virus in China. However Experts and the WHO have agreed that there is no evidence to suggest that cats or dogs can be infected by the virus. Even if they do the strain are very different they say.
They go on to say that the pets of infected people are as infectious as things around the person like a door handle, a TV remote and such. The virus can be transfers when the infected person coughs or sneezes to the animal or things around them if necessary precautions or not taken.
However it is better to quarantine pets that test positive as a precautionary measure. It is important to wash your hands after touching pets and generally following all hygiene advisories. Build your immunity, increase your intake of vitamin C. Cleaning your pets after a walk could also help.
There is no need to panic, fear could result in people selling off or abandoning of pets. It could cause other people to stigmatize pet owners.
Remember that pets could help reduce stress in this time of fear mongering.

I don’t have a pet at the moment. We are concerned about rapid worldwide distribution.
Yeah I agree, its spreading like wildfire.
it is good that it doesn’t impact dogs and children heavily. that was my primary concern! thanks for sharing this!
Children are affected heavily, but its the elders who face serious issues with this virus. God help us.
for the most parts, kids are more “carriers” than sufferers. Anyone with a weakened physical system (sick kid or young adult, adult or older adult) is at risk
the elderly in specific are at risk.

So dogs are immune then???
No, they have a different strain but they do not infect humans through their sneezing or contact.
Pets do reduce the stress, I miss having a furry friend.
I understand, that is how I felt between pets.
I don’t have a pet. However, I follow all the hygiene instructions.
That is being practical. Better safe than sorry.
