Why do rules matter? Why does negativity matter?

Do rules matter?

Does the truth matter?

There is an award given to people as they speak publicly called the Pinocchio. It represents the part of that story where when Pinocchio lied his nose grew. There isn’t a world leader that hasn’t been fact-checked to say something that was wrong. In part that is the reality of politics. In part that is the reality of humans. But I suspect this says more about where is the world is now than I care to admit.

Out of this observation, I’ve decided to move my orientation (John Boyd’s OODA Loops, in particular, I am leveraging a feedback loop.)

  1. Recent threads on a facebook group about Vrily listed a problem. People all pitched in to see if they had a problem. Then when the problem was fixed, that was added to the thread. Yes, a negative, but also a positive.
  2. The most negative posters don’t post in the group anymore (which is awesome)!

It is ok to be frustrated about problems. Yesterday the Virily platform appeared (this is the thread I mentioned above)to have been down for about 3 hours give or take. It was 524 and 503 errors that we got on the user side. Those are normally received when a host is unable to accept new connections. It is also something that the admin team was able to fix.

It’s ok to express frustration, as long as you come back when the problem is fixed and post that as well. The terrifying reality of the truth isn’t that things happen and people lie. It isn’t that lies exist. It is sometimes that they are repeated so often we begin to believe them.

Trust if you wish, but verify! There are many sources of information in the world if you don’t check both sides, then shame on you.

  1. Unfortunately, missed the problem with 524 and 503 errors on Virily cause didn’t visit the site yesterday. Anyway, prefer not to complain if it’s possible & also sure that positive way of thinking is more constructive.

    • It was only for a day, I actually ended up working on other things so didn’t miss the site. Understand the not complaining rule, it is ok to complain from time to time, as long as you take the time to let people know things are fixed.

  2. When I saw the 503 and 524 numbers on the screen, I realized that maybe the site was going some work on the site and it would return the same day or the next day. I went to work on other sites in the meantime.

    • For the vast majority, they are jailed for what they wrote. They disagreed with the government and were jailed.

At a recent rally in Houston for a US politician, a BBC cameraman was attacked.

I understand that it is difficult at times, but journalists work very hard at presenting the truth.

  3. I had problems with Viriliy yesterday all day. I did not want to get excited about this. I decided to do some other work for which I usually run out of time. Regarding truth or lies … I always check more resources (television, internet, newspapers, etc.). Only then do I create my opinion of what is true and what is not. We have a saying … we must always hear both sides

  4. The site was down all day here yesterday in the UK, for about 15 hours at least (I kept trying it all day). I don’t see why people are not allowed to comment on that; it’s very frustrating.

      • I did read it DocAndersen, but maybe I didn’t understand it correctly. The wording is a bit confusing – it seemed to me that you were saying that people are being negative by commenting on the outage. I didn’t understand the technical bits about error messages.

        • I also said, and have said that its ok to complain, just make sure you take the time to post when the problem is fixed.

If you only complain, then it is useless.

        • Then we are in agreement. It is ok to complain, just let people know if the problem gets fixed.

The negative posters on here and the facebook groups, don’t ever take the time to mention the problem is actually fixed.

  5. I thought that I had experienced 503 and 524 errors for at least more than 12 hours (both in commute and at home) because during that time I repeatedly tried and checked if the problem was finished until finally I decided to sleep… During that time I had the opportunity to explore this and that on the internet but I didn’t think about finding out about it on Facebook (even though I looked around on Facebook too)… or maybe because I wasn’t a member of the group.
Well, I don’t think this is the first time this problem has happened, and I imagine how busy the admin is to overcome this problem…

    • The problem with a 524 and a 503 error is that means that the host (Virily) isn’t operating or accepting new connections.

I honestly have no idea how long the actual outage was.

I do agreee the poor admins were probably bailing like crazy just so the ship didn’t sink!

      • Indeed, it is far better if the admin has a way to reveal what happened to this site so that in the future there is no need to have similar complaints or too much of those who have too much fear. On the other hand, I have also tried to imagine how messy admins do their best effort to overcome this kind of problem, also while imagining how they think about what we think at that time… I think they really stressful like we are too… Maybe there is someone among us can give the best advice to the admin about how to communicate with the user with the minimum opposition.

Hopefully, there is a good solution for this kind of thing.

        • Here is my “gut” feeling (IMHO).

          1. there are writers on the site that have on Facebook, and here on Virily only posted negative information about the site.
          2. As Kim always says “you beat a dog long enough, it won’t come back.”

Humans are not dogs. We don’t need to be beaten as much. I’ve spent the last three months going after the reasonable negative posters. But there are unreasonable posters that are still here.

  6. It was more than 3 hours over here. I think I started at 4 pm and ended frustrated past midnight, but that made me learn more about 503 and 524 errors (I was bored). ?
It’s okay, it is not the first time it happens. It’s fine to have a forced break from time to time.

I didn’t know there was a Facebook group. I just asked to join.

  7. Returning to apologize. I am stressed and yesterday was not fun. I think I took it out on your post. I would remove them if I could and yet apologizing and moving forward is more responsible.

  8. I really sometimes have to work on my negativity in just daily life. Traffic gets me. Virily problems don’t. They have yes, but I have learned to just roll with the flow. As far as believing every thing you see or hear on media, you really really have to check out the facts to really know whats up. Great post Doc!

  9. Humm, well I don’t belong to groups. I couldn’t get on the site for many more hours than three. I try to be positive, it doesn’t always work. I learned that it is fine to post things from here other places with backlinks, that explains a lot that I was confused about.
