My mother and I feed the stray cats under our block sometimes… we always have some cat food ready and when they meowed in hunger when we walked passed them, we go up and then come down with their cat food.
However, recently, perhaps due to the increase number of feeders, which probably expanded their choice… they (or rather one of them) seem to be more picky!
Today we went down to give them food after we saw them meowing in hunger. My mother and I both brought a can of cat food – Mine was Salmon (something, oops) while my mother has the Tuna one.
We always try to let them eat apart because the brown cat eats way too fast and the older grey cat won’t get enough. Sometimes, the grey cat will attack the brown one.
I was slower in opening so both cats rushed to my mother.
After I was done opening, I gave the food to the cats… but none of them wants any! They just continued on my mother’s can! After that can was almost finished (and as usual the grey cat, eating too little and wants to attack the brown cat) I shoved the food from my can to her and she didn’t want it!
The brown cat came and then started gobbling down! The grey cat then looked for scraps of the previous can to eat … … -_-“

Well sometimes they are not that hungry.
Perhaps… Maybe we misunderstood their meow… :p
I assure you that if they’re hungry enough, they will eat whatever you give them
Perhaps … next time I won’t bring food when they meow like that… lol
just put out some dry food and if they don’t eat it, then they don’t eat…
I agree that stray cats need probably better nutrition than indoor, cherished cats. Maybe the grey cat has problems with his teeth or his stomach or even his bowels. But there is also the fact that most cats are picky eaters. Runt, my indoor outdoor cat is very difficult sometimes. He will eat from one can food and then the next day he will not. Sometimes, he does not want canned cat food at all and just eats his dry food. But most times, he gets either schrimps and or mussels because he never gets really tired of these two delights. But oh my is he ever getting expensive to feed. Thank God, even shrimps and mussels sometimes are not eaten and he just goes back to canned cat food or his dry cat food. As such he has a very uneven schedule that he forces us to follow and not the other way around.
Lol, sound like I won’t want to keep a cat :p
They’re too picky.
My Miki is very picky. I have to be very careful about which food I buy. Miki does not like fish.
Really? Cat that doesn’t like fish?
Yes, Alibb … my cat does not really like the fish, I can hardly believe it
Seeing what happened at home with Susie and Blue and some neighboring cats, it seems they need a variety of foods too.
I’ve no idea… I only know they get dry food from another feeder, in fact I think we’re the only ones who gives wet food. Maybe they prefer dry food. Who knows. LOL
It’s good that you and all residents there make a mutual agreement to make a list of daily menus, then paste them on the wall to be read by all the cats.
LOL, do I have to include images?
I think, the more complete the better.
Cats are sensible eaters. However, most people don’t realise that any animal needs to have proper nutrition in their diet just like people.
It pays to get advice for proper nutrition for any animal so that it is healthier.
A lot of animals die before their time because they don’t have nutritional food.
Nutritious food may be more expensive so research on it for cost and value helps.
We just feed the cats occasionally. We just do the best we could for them, by buying cat food (can or packet) from supermarket to feed them.
🙂
Yes some cats are very picky. I have one the Dude, only eats dry food, Brendel will eat wet food but no tuna or salmon, only chicken, and only on certain days.
Omg! Seems like you need to make a timetable/schedule of what they eat and not!
