I was highly frustrated this morning! Well, I was helping out to convert some video on a pretty tight schedule…
I trusted the estimation of the video editing program (What else could I trust) and I did some minor changes and a final render because I knew I had more than an hour left … I estimated more than 20 minutes left after render was done and I could choose the best version …
I was well within time-limit… the video would be done in 41mins 29secs… and I’ve slightly more than an hour on hand …
All seems good until… the render got stacked at 98%! Yes, 98%!! &@*^#*! I waited and waited … time is ticking away and running out…
In the end, I told the person that she’ll have to stick with the last version before the changes, which fortunately I kept with me (and did not try to overwrite it!)… *phew*
I’m not sure how things will turn out for her, I can only wish her good luck and hope she won’t be so last minute again …

The more I see that our technology changes, the more I see sometimes it does not change at all. No one makes a perfect machine.
I guess it’s true.
And then we’ve to account that in when doing projects
Doing everything in the last minute is often unpleasant, especially without adequate preparation!

And it is understandable if someone can feel annoyed if they have to be involved.
I’ve found estimates to be highly unreliable, so I never trust them. I also don’t like to push things out to the last minute, because not all clients are as forgiving as yours was…
Haha, I’ve learnt my lesson and I hope “the client” does too…
she has to be “forgiving” because this is a favour I did for her for free
and she was very last minute …

oh, then she takes whatever you give her. in the future, try disconnecting from the net before starting a big render…

the idea is to let your render have the most CPU cycles and RAM as possible. Shut everything else down, close your network connection and let your machine work. go have lunch or watch a movie…

I guess I’d do that even when I start editing because the program was pretty choppy too …
bring up the task manager and kill everything you can
