What to wear in a formal occasion

In the western countries, the suit and tie is the standard wear for the men and for the women it is the gown. Over here, it is also the gown for women although in quite a different design than what the Americans and Europeans wear. For the men, it is a mix of the suit and tie and the native Barong.

The Barong is made of thin fabric called pinya (pineapple). It is woven intricately by artistans and the designs are not printed but included in the fabric. In formal gatherings like a wedding, the attire is stated in the invitation so those who will attend will not be out of place. It is not good to be wearing the suit when everyone is wearing the Barong.
