What is Friendship?

I have had reason to give the word friendship a lot of thought in the past few weeks. I have friends pass away. I have had friends persecuted for standing up for me. I have had friends grow beyond our relationship. What has all that taught me?

I’ve learned a lot about sincerity. Sincerity is tough to find. Many are happy to tell you what you want to hear and many are more than happy to criticize, but few are able to speak with kindness and sincerity.

No one is perfect. We shouldn’t pretend that our friends are perfect.  Everyone has flaws and everyone can learn something from every situation. Sometimes it takes years to appreciate a tough lesson learned.

I am honored to have so many kind, loving and supporting friends who will tell me when I have stepped over the line and will back me up when I have not.

Reality checks are a good thing. I have some great friends here. I appreciate you.  In case I do not say it enough, you are loved and appreciated and I hope I live long enough to repay all your kindness.  Thanks for being who you are, the perfect kind of friends.

  1. The funny thing is that in works of fiction, when a mortal finds out his or her best friend is an alien super hero, the relationship can be testy to say the least since the hero tells his or her best friend he or she was trying to shield them from harm.
