Wedding Gift

My cousin is getting married next month … My parents as seniors have to attend this “drink tea” session whereby the bride and groom serve tea to them … and then they have to give something back as a blessing. Usually people give angbaos – but as you know, its a special situation for us, we cannot give angbao!

So my mum “commissioned” (actually is command) me to make something to put the vouchers we got for them! I did a few “mockups” (just exploring different colours, since my printer can’t replicate the colours 100%) The colours are supposed to be more pastel but oh well, these do just fine, at least my “client” didn’t reject them! LOL

    • Lol because we can’t give “angbaos” (Ang means “red” in hokkien dialect) so I tried to avoid the bright red… the envelopes you see here, actually have another colour on the other side… to avoid being too “pink-ish” (since pink is kinda associated with red)

        • Actually you’re right about red and double hei! I wasn’t clear in my explanation :p
Our family is “special” because we’re in “mourning period”. Usually there are rules for mourning (and may differ slightly between dialect and religion) however there are a few things that stays as long as you follow Chinese traditions:

          1) for 1 whole year, you’re not allowed to attend celebrations (unless its close relatives or that the host said they don’t mind)
          2) NO angbaos, only vouchers or gifts.
          3) Cannot wear bright (especially red, yellow and green) for 49 days
