Hi! I am back and ready to get rolling! I feel refreshed and ready to tackle issues.
1. The Virily application (long explanation here: Most web-based systems operate as applications. They have scripts, and code that executes when the user logs on, to use the site) was built on the WordPress Platform. WordPress is a form of OSS (Open Source Software). OSS is software that exists, is maintained and developed bya community but it is not sold.
2. The screen many people have seen is a WordPress template and would be expected if there are issues.
3. The problems appear to be isolated to the members of Virily that joined after the original crew was on the site, and before that newest members.
a. The oldest and newest are still able to post.
b.It is very frustrating, and hopefully, we get a resolution!
One of the things we have to consider is that Virily is both A somewhat costly per month (they have to store, posts, pictures, and comments. The posts and comments are little to no space at all. The pictures even at less than eight megs adds up. An application like Virily has three parts, and the issues we’ve been experiencing for the past 12 days could be in any of the three.
Front end (sometimes called web servers)
Middle, process or sometimes called business layer
Backend
Virily is most like what is called an n-tier application. You have that front end that connects first to the login process. I am a valid user. Then you have the storage (your user profile) and what is your Virily screen. Your dashboard, profile, and the listing of the badges you received. Etc. The next tier is either the reading or posting tier. The tier separate from that is the commenting and the up and downvoting/emojis for each post. Then you have the storage area for your old posts. This has to have both reference to you as a user, and reference to the posts you’ve made in the past. Normally this done by assigning each post a UID or GUID; a UID is a Unique Modification. A GUID is simply a global one, in the sense that it covers a larger system.
The site “Virily” interacts with users in the following ways (before posting).
There is an A record. (Virily.com) so in your browser, the Domain Name Service DNS, entry for Virily goes to the server farm that hosts virily.
Then there is the login. The site (virily) doesn’t seem to support cookies, so you have to log in each time.
One of the errors I’ve seen is getting logged out of the site, and not knowing it! When you have an issue, make sure (user icon right side of your screen) that you are logged in.
Then you either choose to read the posts of others, deal with your notifications or create a new post.
It is a very complex application. I wish it was working correctly.

Didn’t know about connection with the WordPress Platform, if so, it’s true very complicated. Thank you so much for another wonderful detailed report!!!
thanks! I am trying to help people understand how complex Virily really is.
You explain things well. I am happy in Virily
i am really glad you are here and adding your humor, and style to the site!
Thanks a lot. I try my best!!!
you always have, as long as I have known you!
Thank you very much. I really enjoy your articles
Yesterday I submitted a new post. How long until I know if it was accepted and is posted on the site? Anyone have suggestions to make the site work faster?
the timeline for articles submitted to published is usually between 2-6 days. That said a few folks have reported between 5 and 8 days lately.
Well now that was a great explanation. I had no idea it was that complex. Thanks Doc.
it is very complex. that very complexity with the death of the founder, is what killed Niume.
I was reading that in your response to Kaka. I didn’t know the reason Niume went down as I had just joined the month before it died.
Yeah, I knew the admins pretty well and actually had a long email conversation with the founder before he died.
it was devastating. First, they stopped paying (that hurt) then the site died.
we had a great crew of writers there!
Thanks for explaining this, but it’s too complicated for me to understand. 😀
I am not leaving. I understand there are always issues, as long as the Virily team is willing to fix the issues and stay, I’d be happy to stay too. I can still create posts, but my posts are not approved for days. I can still read and comment. 🙂
good on you for commenting and reading still! Hopefully the admin team is all hands on deck right now trying to fix the problem.
This is an interesting analysis. I was not aware that there was currently a problem with Virily, apart from the fact that people have been stating that there is! I have, however, had problems in the past and I can therefore appreciate how frustrating it is when things do not work as promised.
it is an interesting reality. The site is complex but 13 days of the partial outage is really bad. Views are down overall (I was checking yesterday compared to last weekend).
Views being down we should be able to help with. Let’s get on with social media and do what we can.
It seems to me that those who can’t post would want to comment and view others who can’t post even more to help each other. It seems to me a time to pull together not to tear apart. But what would I know, I am on a mountain in the middle of no where watching it snow.
i think there is a lot of anger. I can understand why people are angry. It is hard to focus when you are angry.

I found out what my problem was regarding posting polls and the question not appearing well it seems like it is my keypad not responding 100% to the commands. I am carefully watching that part of posting now and it’s working fine now.P.S. not Virily’s fault. I would like to be able to pull down my posts to update errors.
I have had a few of those issues over the years. In the IT world we call those Operator error or (Loose nut behind the keyboard).
My issue is the pending posts – no approval for more than a week already.
Alex, I suspect it is all hands on deck trying to fix the issues the site is having.
Thank you very much for the explanation. Now at least I know about how it works. I just hope the problem is resolved as quickly as possible. It really does take a very long time.
that I do not know, the speed of the resolution is 12, or 13 days now? more than a 1/3 of the users impacted.
we have slipped from 3 9s availability in my world to less than 1 nine now. (has to do with how available the service is. 99.9% means the server is down around 9 hours in a calendar year.
with partial availability they don’t have the full outage, but still they are now well past 120 hours down.
It’s sad that so many cannot post. I even do not know what to think about Virily, it’s abnormal for so long time to keep the site in this buggy way.
it is very hard to accept but I do know that a site like this is very complex.
Glad to see you’re back and you had a good time. After many struggles, I finally appear to have landed a much-needed writing job so I will stay here a bit longer. I still think that there is a plot afoot and that those of us with WordPress banners are being made to cool off and in some way, admin can save money on us. I wrote to them about my suspicions and point-blank inquired about the fact that there are a group of us that have this WordPress banner and exactly what does this really all mean??? Needless to say from the admin side there is dead silence.
First I understand your frustration.
Second, there isn’t a conspiracy. The site is way down for views now. That is costing them money every single day.
Now we are in the danger zone for a site like this. If you lose your reader base you run the risk of not having enough income to stay operational
I sent you a message but so others can read also this is the response I got today from Virily support
I’m not sure what is happening – I will contact the IT team again and see when this will be fixed.
i got a similar response. It appears based that, that there are two or even three distinct teams. Admins, IT and Moderators.
I really appreciate knowing what is going on with the site. There are many pages that are not working correctly, including the one where we can contact the webmaster. Can you fix that one?
Thanks for the infor!
the only way to contact the webmaster of Virily is to email them. The address is support@virily.com
“-) They don’t always respond.
You have provided an inkling why sometimes running a site isn’t easy. I knew it was working on a wordpress platform. Thanks for the explanation. It did help to understand why Virily seems to be in a mess.
Niume was also built on the WordPress platform, It literally went out of business because one person died.
I didn’t know about that. Thanks for telling that. I wonder why Niume suddenly closed down as I thought it was running quite well.
it was a really sad situation, the person that died was the only one that knew all the code.
Thank-you for explaining. Although, I think most members only care about being able to get back to posting on the site. This article gives everyone a better understanding of what the site staff has to go through to fix even a small problem.
I suspect you are correct, just trying to make sure people knew what was happening.
Bottom line, the majority of members need to know why they cannot post.
I am certain they are ducks on a pond right now (looks peaceful above the water but legs churning like crazy below).
this is a really hard, and complex issue. Plus, they struggle to communicate at best.
For now, I have no problem. Sometimes he won’t let me comment, but after he returns me I have no problem. I’m sorry that many people have this problem.
I am glad to hear you can post, The comment issue. The site doesn’t let you comment all the time?
