This turtle had enough of its enclosure at the conservatory in our local botanical gardens and wandered out into the common area. This photo was taken as it was meandering along the pedestrian corridor. We had to be careful not to step on it but it was nice to see it up close and personal. Turtles have been around for over 200 million years but many species of turtles are now endangered. The leatherback sea turtle is the largest weighing over 900 kg (2000 lb.)

I have seen turtles in the zoo but never been able to touch them. It’s lovely and unique.
It was a great experience to see them so close
They are unique and interesting animals
Yes they are very interesting and historic too.
And it’s really a real disaster that some species are pre-emptied
That is a real tragedy
We had pet turtles. We even had a snapping turtle that we would return to the pond for hybernation and bring him home each summer.
That is interesting about the hibernation.
Never had one as a pet but I always think they are cute.
I had many pet turtles growing up. Cool photo.
Thank you. I never had a pet turtle but always liked seeing them
Super shot. I have not seen the turtle yet.
Thank you. They are interesting creatures
No way , I am scared of it
When my kids were little we visited a nature farm and they were able to sit on very large turtle.
So cute that this turtle actually managed to escape from its enclosure.
Yes the turtle is not as slow as we think and the staff didn’t even know until we told them.
