Virily's new reply policy

We know that Virily is a work in progress and that the admins are constantly attempting to upgrade and extend the functionality of the site. A new feature they’ve implemented is to require users to agree to their policy for each and every reply. I believe this is a design flaw and should be backed out of the codebase

I have already encountered several instances where the checkbox doesn’t appear, so I am unable to reply to any posts in that thread. This is a very serious bug but even if fixed, it doesn’t address the underlying issue

If you want folks to reply and generate traffic, never make it difficult for them to do so. Even if there is some legal reason to require the user to acknowledge their assent of the storage and handling of comments, it could be handled globally at login

Speaking of which, I was pleased to notice that we were notified of the chat feature being discontinued at login. I applaud the decision to inform users of this up front

  1. I still can’t see any of my earnings for the month of April, I only have them until march and I had lots in April! UGH! now this comment thing is very annoying…

  2. Keep in mind that this isn’t Virily being arbitrary, this is almost definitely an effort to be in compliance with GDPR. That having been said, this seems like a clumsy solution even if the bugs are worked out…

  3. I believe that it’s related to the GDPR that’s coming into effect in a few days. It doesn’t make sense, because we are already registered users, but data operators need consent for everything. While it’s still a new law, people don’t really know how to comply, so I think it’s not only Virily’s fault.

    • Kudos to you, your assessment of the situation is spot on! We need to remember that Virily doesn’t have a choice in the matter, but that having been said there has got to be a more elegant solution to compliance…

      • I agree with you, it’s annoying to have to check that box for every comment. I believe that there is a way to gain this conset once, and leave us alone like other sites do. After all, we are already sharing a lot more personal data than the comments. However, I understand why hey would be worried, even some of the biggest companies struggle with compliance.

  4. Again, ongoing change happens again. I’m just still wondering, if we could not see any tick box to legalize to write a comment or reply, then why is there still a useless comment box under each picture? Is it temporary or…?

    • This is clearly a bug, one we hope will be fixed soon. But we need to be patient, there is no point to Virily rolling out an untested fix that only introduces more bugs…

      • Since we are not involved in the decision making process, I would hesitate at making assumptions about things that aren’t clearly understood. We have no idea what their test process might be…

  5. As a person who has been writing online for over 10 YEARS I find it hysterically funny that this site can not seem to function at the competence of sites which existed then.

  6. I totally agree with you. What makes this whole process so funny is that ten years ago writing sites had all this solved. Isn’t it funny that what was a shrug in 2008 is beyond the mental capacity in 2018

  7. I don’t get why we need to check that…
but oh wellzz… I just “back” whenever I forgot about that checkbox… -_-“

  8. Only registered users can post a comment or reply. When signing up we agree that the site may store our content, so there is no logical reason why we have to repeat our agreement. This new tickbox would only make sense if non-members were posting comments.

When I tried to post a comment under one of the images at https://virily.com/art/a-two-part-study-of-blair-wip/ I got this message: ‘Comment Submission Failure’. I couldn’t see any tickbox.

  9. At the very least, the checkbox should be in the same position regardless of post type. But it is a pain to do this for each and every comment, hence my classification as a design flaw

  10. Seems that even when your posts are about technical issues they appear on my laptop with lingerie ads…now Sneaky Vaunt and Journelle have edged out Victoria Secret in side ads…
