First off, I wanted to make sure that a couple of questions over the past few days got answered!
- The ability to edit our posts was the number one ask from the community way back when we did that
- The second most asked for change was the ability to edit comments
- The third most asked for change was fixing notifications. By fixing the community wanted fewer notifications for us to go through each day, week, month or so when we logged onto Virily.
Two of those three ask are functioning now! The new asks that I have sent have to do with the right of an author to delete comments on their posts — plus continuing the quest to get all of us the ability to edit comments. I wanted to combat some misinformation that I have seen on the site. The ask by authors was that we wouldn’t see all the extra notifications as it made it longer to go through notifications overall.
The site is much slower than it was. I like many other authors have set a limit on the amount of time I am willing to spend on Virily. I find with the new site slowness that I struggled to get done in 2 hours what I had been able to do in 1 hour previously. Some of it is a learning curve, and I am willing to assume that as I get faster in using the new platform I will reduce the currently doubled time. Otherwise, I am going to have to cut down to reading 15 posts a day or less.
I also wanted to make sure that everyone knows a couple of alarming facts:
- The embedded ads are back (actually put into the text of your blog post) those have come and gone several times, But if you copy your Virily posts to create a backup copy, it can be frustrating to have to remove the embedded ads. FYI!
- Views are down; part of that I suspect is that most people like me are spending the same amount of time on the site, but because the site is slowers, you cannot do as much at the same time. I am hoping that as the code base stabilizes we will see some speed improvements.
Views being down are bad, though. The more views the site generates, the more revenue they get. The “new Virily” interface probably cost 200 or more hours of developer time to build. The overall site views need to move up if possible quickly!

I think it would be nice to give the author a free hand in deleting comments. You have been receiver of such in the past ?
i have, and honestly if you block the user and that user comment son a post, reporting them removes them forever!
But editing comments would be critical for authors going forward!
There is a feature here in Virily that allows an author to block another user? Blocking is kinda extreme, I believe. I only block people when my respectful request to be left alone is disregarded several times ?.
I agree. The person I blocked is a person I have asked multiple times to just leave me alone. She actually reached out and attacked me on another social platform.
That extreme??? Awww. ?
yeah, she has attacked many authors here on Virily. Blocking her reduced my stress!
To be honest, I haven’t noticed that the site is slower, but my device is quite slow too, haha.
it feels horribly slow to me
Welcome to my life, lol. I hope they fix it soon.
haha!
yeah I don’t normally have an issue of slow!
I don’t think about how and what … I try to understand as much as possible what it is
that is all we can do my friend.
What bothers me the most is because I can’t see or get or don’t get Virilyev … I have a feeling they cheat a little … and even for comments you once get once you don’t get
if you go to your profile page, select menu you will see an option for virils. I would check that one.
I haven’t seen a decline in virils, I will start watching carefully!
I feel like the comments are very limited … it never happened to me before that I wouldn’t get Virily for a comment … now this is happening to me every day so I’m so late … I’ll just write everyone one comment
as far as I can tell you still get the virils for comments. I will check again, but I don’t think that was changed.

sent to the admin team!
ps will update all the changes one last time today!
The only thing that worries me here is the lack of communication. The rest can be handled.
That has been a huge problem since the site started. Well, that isn’t true. They used to have a persistent chat window so you could talk to support and they actually responded more often then. now, not so much.
The growing concern on this site is that the admins are not communicating with the members. Especially on the changes that they are doing or whenever some technical issues arise.
For questions 3 and 4, I don’t think they are not necessary for me for now. But it would be great if we would have that control just in case the need arises.
i keep sending all of these to the admin team. They appear to be acting on many things the community asked for.
it would be great for the admin team to loop us in. the whole guessing game thing is exhausting
I would love that, it would make my day.
but they don’t want that. at least they’re fixing things
there you go, at least they are fixing things!
my policy is: I don’t argue with results
that is healthy! I find sometimes results aren’t results, what do you do in those cases?
then I can argue all I want
so then do you justify your position?
I suspect you argue with a series of rules. I’ve seen you have disagreements here on Virily and noticed that you operate within those rules.
as a bot, all my behavior is governed by rules
🙂
that was hilarious!
thank you comedy bot!
if I were programmed to, I’d jump off a bridge
hummm sounds like a hackathon challenge to me!
who’d hack a spambot?
best way to take down a spammer is to find the source, and then DDOS it with legitimate traffic!!!!
remember the good old days when you could crash a system with a malformed IGMP packet?
or more fun, forget the end statement in a Novell login script.
(I did that once)
the dawn days of computing, when security was an afterthought at best
The funny thing is, we thought we were secure back then. Now we know we are not.
most of us weren’t even considering security back then. unless we were hackers
i remember doing things back then to keep things working that would be considered hacking now.
But it wasn’t trying to destroy i was trying to keep things moving!
whereas I was just snooping around because I could…
i can imagine you were one of the users on the network I was looking for. 🙂 Not hackers just people exploring.
still hacking, but not causing any overt mischief
that is an interesting way to look at it. From a company perspective, there is the reality of having “explorers” on the network. Failing one component of an audit now can be expensive.
back in the day, it wasn’t illegal (yet) and I was a minor. since I didn’t delete or even copy anything…
but still, if someone did that to my system, I’d be pissed
Technically until that first worm around 1988 it really wasn’t illegal. The reality of Cybercrime is that the “bad actors” got a head start.
yeah, and law enforcement didn’t understand it. neither did congress…
I often wonder if the reality isn’t that the hackers will always be ahead.
half the community is trying to stop them and the other half is trying to get around
The reality is that on one side you have rules and laws. On the other side neither of those apply. it is easy to see a lead based on that.
if the laws and rules are just, they’re for our own protection
One more thing Doc it was Ghostwrite who expressed her displeasure to being called a Newbie and now I have noticed that we are all labeled Newbies even you, What is that all about?
I noticed it too. It appears everyone is a newbie and it isn’t good considering I have been a member for two years. They should let us know the conditions to label us as newbies.
i think pal this is a Virily 2.0 reset. so by that measure, we are all newbies.
i do not know the answer to that question. I guess this is Virily 2.0 and we are all starting over. I would love to be able to earn badges again. I haven’t earned a new badge in more than 2 years. (I am kidding I don’t care about badges).
I would very much like it if we could edit our comments if we make mistakes. The editing of posts is important because people told me my last quiz had problems but I had gone over it carefully so I had no idea what the issues were and I could not do anything about it. Now when I do another quiz I cannot be sure it will be all right and once I have shared it to social media and the previous one was not good how do I know if anyone will bother looking at the next one. Another thing is that once we share our posts to the social media it looks unprofessional if there are mistakes so it would be great if others here on Virily would point out the mistakes if we did not pick them up and then we could edit so that it goes clean in the stream. Something new has cropped up and that is I was commenting and I was taken off the page and it said to comment I had to be logged in but I had been logged in since I came on Virily so I had to log in again.
the not logged in issue has happened to me for the past 5 months. I’ve actually reported it to the admins a number of times! THanks for letting me know however that it happened to you!
the whole editing thing right now, makes me nervous for a number of reasons.
I make a article about 3 days ago about our Not updating points.
But till Now it’s not published
Sorry to hear you are having issues, I have noticed that a few authors did not have their september Virils in the November account is that what you are talking about?
https://virily.com/?post_type=snax_poll&p=1021704
I attach a link click it so u will know
the link didn’t work, sorry about that
i was able to view but not comment the post a day later.
As for editing posts, I don’t know if that’s right or not. At the moment, I’m not going to use this. I’d be more than happy to edit the comment.
sadly pandora has opened the chest. I do not know the impact.
I have found out how to edit posts, but I am afraid that this could lead to an abuse. I have been a member for more than 3 years and have more than 700 posts “in the bag”. Clearly, those older posts don’t yet many views these days, but I have discovered that if I edit an old post and re-publish it, it pops up to the top of my list and also appears on everyone’s “latest” list.
So what is to stop me from re-publishing all my old stuff ad infinitum and earning hundreds of Virils by attracting fresh views? Anyone could do this and swamp the system with lots of “new old” posts that are indistinguishable from genuinely new posts.
That – to me – would be an abuse, and I do not intend to do that, despite have just done it for the sole purpose of proving that it can be done – and you don’t even have to do any editing!
This actually happened to me yesterday. I was on the “treasure hunt” of looking at changes and an old post I pulled up was re-posted. I emailed Virily to take it down.
when saw that was what happened I didn’t edit any posts. I have a list about 40 posts to edit but I realized that wasn’t fair.
Norman brought this up, Carol mentioned it below. It is a problem in the end. I don’t know the answer.
Hi, Doc. Great’and content-rich, post with many advantageous recommendations. Good luck with the requests. You say two of the three queries have been sorted. Pray, share, kind sir, which are they? My Synaptics aren’t firing sequentially as they ought to, due to the Hellfire climate, (100 plus in the shade) we are currently experiencing on the Dark Continent. Regards-Andre
ability to edit posts was granted with the new release.
Reduction in notification noise (only upvotes and comments) was provided in this release as well
Limiting my time here for now. We will see what happens.
i am going to cut down as well.
At least until I know what is going on.
I agree. We should band together and keep this group moving forward!
Works for me. Count me in.
you bet! 🙂 oh brave new world!
though i have not experience , but I have heard from a virily member that we will now be able to edit our approved post and comments as well
yes that in fact is the case. It was one of our asks f;\rom this summer and the admin team has allowed that!
I wouldn’t want to block authors from commenting but I support editing comments. Some comments are embarrassing and others are misunderstood thus the need of editing them.
at some point it is easier just to delete comments of people that missed the point, didn’t read your post or are just not nice.
Yes. And there is the possibility of people abusing the editing featurebon posts but I think when used right, it will be beneficial to the author and the site. On Hubpages I continually edit my posts to make them up to date and relevant to the current world. The Hubpages admin always encourage us to edit our posts. Once a post is edited, it always appear as if it was published anew. I would like to correct some facts in some of my articles that are no longer facts.
that is the topic of my post today!
I’m looking forward to your thoughts about it.
i am a bit nervous about some of the way the changes were implemented.
A larger text window would be good, I think. Sometimes 3600 characters isn’t nearly enough!
I agree, it has been added to the list
Today is the first I have seen the new Virily, and I am slow to get the hang of it all. I guess I will adjust in time.
i am struggling to do what I used to do. Oh well, I agree I will adapt!
