Virily issues, what we asked for, what we got.

First off, I wanted to make sure that a couple of questions over the past few days got answered!

  1. The ability to edit our posts was the number one ask from the community way back when we did that
  2. The second most asked for change was the ability to edit comments
  3. The third most asked for change was fixing notifications. By fixing the community wanted fewer notifications for us to go through each day, week, month or so when we logged onto Virily.

Two of those three ask are functioning now! The new asks that I have sent have to do with the right of an author to delete comments on their posts — plus continuing the quest to get all of us the ability to edit comments.  I wanted to combat some misinformation that I have seen on the site. The ask by authors was that we wouldn’t see all the extra notifications as it made it longer to go through notifications overall.

The site is much slower than it was. I like many other authors have set a limit on the amount of time I am willing to spend on Virily. I find with the new site slowness that I struggled to get done in 2 hours what I had been able to do in 1 hour previously. Some of it is a learning curve, and I am willing to assume that as I get faster in using the new platform I will reduce the currently doubled time. Otherwise, I am going to have to cut down to reading 15 posts a day or less.

I also wanted to make sure that everyone knows a couple of alarming facts:

  1. The embedded ads are back (actually put into the text of your blog post) those have come and gone several times, But if you copy your Virily posts to create a backup copy, it can be frustrating to have to remove the embedded ads. FYI!
  2. Views are down; part of that I suspect is that most people like me are spending the same amount of time on the site, but because the site is slowers, you cannot do as much at the same time. I am hoping that as the code base stabilizes we will see some speed improvements.

Views being down are bad, though. The more views the site generates, the more revenue they get. The “new Virily” interface probably cost 200 or more hours of developer time to build. The overall site views need to move up if possible quickly!

  2. The growing concern on this site is that the admins are not communicating with the members. Especially on the changes that they are doing or whenever some technical issues arise.

For questions 3 and 4, I don’t think they are not necessary for me for now. But it would be great if we would have that control just in case the need arises.

  3. I would very much like it if we could edit our comments if we make mistakes. The editing of posts is important because people told me my last quiz had problems but I had gone over it carefully so I had no idea what the issues were and I could not do anything about it. Now when I do another quiz I cannot be sure it will be all right and once I have shared it to social media and the previous one was not good how do I know if anyone will bother looking at the next one. Another thing is that once we share our posts to the social media it looks unprofessional if there are mistakes so it would be great if others here on Virily would point out the mistakes if we did not pick them up and then we could edit so that it goes clean in the stream. Something new has cropped up and that is I was commenting and I was taken off the page and it said to comment I had to be logged in but I had been logged in since I came on Virily so I had to log in again.

    • the not logged in issue has happened to me for the past 5 months. I’ve actually reported it to the admins a number of times! THanks for letting me know however that it happened to you!

the whole editing thing right now, makes me nervous for a number of reasons.

  4. I have found out how to edit posts, but I am afraid that this could lead to an abuse. I have been a member for more than 3 years and have more than 700 posts “in the bag”. Clearly, those older posts don’t yet many views these days, but I have discovered that if I edit an old post and re-publish it, it pops up to the top of my list and also appears on everyone’s “latest” list.

So what is to stop me from re-publishing all my old stuff ad infinitum and earning hundreds of Virils by attracting fresh views? Anyone could do this and swamp the system with lots of “new old” posts that are indistinguishable from genuinely new posts.

That – to me – would be an abuse, and I do not intend to do that, despite have just done it for the sole purpose of proving that it can be done – and you don’t even have to do any editing!

  5. Hi, Doc. Great’and content-rich, post with many advantageous recommendations. Good luck with the requests. You say two of the three queries have been sorted. Pray, share, kind sir, which are they? My Synaptics aren’t firing sequentially as they ought to, due to the Hellfire climate, (100 plus in the shade) we are currently experiencing on the Dark Continent. Regards-Andre
