When things are most negative, when things are at their worst we can see the good in people! Take a moment if you would, and if you leave comments, try to leave one or more kind comments a day. Yesterday I talked about the fact that the views were down. I got several excellent responses, and I thank every single person that responded. It is the civil discourse that brings me back to sites! I did get a PM asking me why I didn’t mention some of the other social media sites when it comes to sharing the works of others. I thought I would address that today.
- Pinterest for a new post – my testers see a small uptick when they only share posts on Pinterest. In fairness, I tried it and saw no increase in views.
- Mix – I see some views on old posts shared in Mix. I do not see a considerable increase otherwise from Mixed.
- Linkedin – for technology posts I share on LinkedIn, I do see a 10-20 view increase. But most of my friends are technical. So that would be expected.
- I have seen zero activity at all from sharing on MeWe. I might have one or two views, but so far nothing.
So what can we do? Well, there are several things we as a community can do going forward. Start with leaving a kind comment. Make people want to return to this or any site you are interested in. Several exciting challenges are going on; those always make the site a little better. Thank the people that participate and make those challenges bigger better, and more energetic!
There is another series focusing on older posts by authors. That one has grown, and we have several folks doing it. There is the go back and read the first ten posts an author constructed on a site. I’ve been doing that one (one author per week) for the past month.
A new series yesterday is focusing on posts by authors about a specific topic. I think that one would make a great one if you wanted one to emulate!
Views drive revenue; when the ads are back, we need pictures. That is a simple fact unless the site has received VC (Venture Capitalist) money those ads drive the revenue.
The best thing we can do is help our community be stronger! A healthy society can continue moving forward.

Since most people are staying at home, views and interaction should be higher, right?
But somehow this is not the case here. ;(.
My biggest concern here anyway is it takes too long for the admins to approve/reject posts. I got a number of posts waiting in the PENDING section… *sigh*

i am so sorry about that – the reality of the viril value has also decreased. I think for pennies a month I won’t be at Virily.

To make it worse, I got a notice that said: “20 virils deducted for deleted/unapproved comment”.
I wanted to stay here… but…
i actually think that is how they are applying the new comment limit!
It seems to me that TV ads are very small. My shared photos continue the same number of likes on facebook as before. I hope that everything is temporary and we must be united to overcome it. I didn’t hurt or hurt anyone. I try to convey my optimism to everyone.
i truly hope that we as a community will survive. There are too many people i enjoy all the people here!
I’ve been doing writing assignment all day long so this is a good way for me to relax among friends

These are all great ways for users to help the situation a little bit, but not much depends on us.
honestly, the biggest part falls to us. Views are driven by content. The better and more varied the content types, the more views we bring.
i wish, however, that the admin team realized that.
I agree with you, but I think a lot of people feel discouraged to bring their best efforts.

I think this is a hard time this site is going through. If adds are not back it is hard for them to sustain.
I suspect views have been down for a long time, I do agree ads are critical. But we have to increase the views as well.
Despite all the difficulties, I try to remain kind and positive. I would never insult anyone on this site. I’m thinking about why there are no commercials.

I have tried pinterest for Virily nothing happens, but my articles on HP do get views.
But as I said earlier, the site has to do more. Three days and counting, no posts approved yet. I am not trying to be a hero, I will not hang around a lot if there is no turn around. Internal views are bound fall if no posts are approved.
i do worry about that a lot, I actually send the admins an email about moving you into the self-posting category, but nothing so far.

Thank you for recommending me. That is very kind of you, but with the value of Virils going down and the activity for which Virils are given, is going to make this journey tougher. It is going to take months to make payout. I guess no one has that kind of patience.
I know I don’t. My value is the community. Plus that is march, a month with zero ads for most of the month.
as for the recommendation, i am amazed you aren’t verified. there are other users who don’t contribute 1/2 what you do that are now.
I used to recommend Virily on other sites saying it is easy to earn here, it is fun to be here and such.. but now I find it hard to bring myself here.
in times of trouble, we have to consider things that make us feel better if Virily doesn’t then it is time to move to other things that do.
I do enjoy our conversations because it is one of the main things that keeps me logging on to this site.

One thing that I have took notice of on Yelp is that many of the Yelpers are checking in on one another, spreading positive words instead of hate! Most of the time it catches me by surprise because I am just trying to avoid the words by media to keep myself uplifted because I live alone. Most of them are words from are random people from different sides of America. I do what I can to spread positive energy because it is just not healthy on a person as a whole with all going on in the world.
At this time, I just latch onto things that bring me good energy and I definitely dont want to read anything else about a virus because I am already getting flooded with it in my inbox and social media.

Staying upbeat, and positive is so important right now. I have gotten 4 or 5, you OKs on yelp!
It is heartwarming to get them, especially from someone in a different age group or someone that is across America. I love how many have adapted to the takeout, or delivery. I review more to help the business gain customers, plus support them financially. With Virily, I plan to drop random quotes to uplift, or either something to make others laugh. I’ll probably have to use the translator on here, so it will be understood.
it is a wonderful change, we did the early birthday for the twins via take out. It wasn’t what we usually do, but ended up being a fun family meal.

A lot of these changes can turn into great memories to look back on. I do believe that restaurants should be open, but they should require a certain number of customers inside just like the grocery stores. I miss my thrift stores being open. Tomorrow I will be making a trip to Wal-Mart to get a money order and possibly to FedEx.
When the world shifts to the right, it always shifts back tot he left. Let’s see what this change brings, that will be lasting!
Since Pinterest is mostly use as image search engine by people, I think it will be more effective when sharing the post with appealing / aesthetic photo or article about tips and hacks.
i share my wander project there (it always has pictures)! but I don’t see much of a bounce back to this site from Pinterest. Do you?

1. Many of the articles which appear on the front page are garbage. They are poorly written. Some are about topics no one is interested in.
2. Well run sites put their best or more eye catching items on the front page. Of course, well run sites which publish in English are run by people who are literate in English.
i actually think there are many good and many average posts on the site. But yes, we should advertise the better posts more, I agree with that.
i don’t know at this point what to say about your second point. I suspect that the lack of English causes their unwillingness to communicate. But I don’t know that for a fact.
I think great writing sites, communicate!

The word “Assignation’ was all through the article. Obviously the ‘moderators’ didn’t see the error.
i do understand that – i don’t think the moderators evaluate spelling i think it is more plagiarized content they are focused on.
all they focus on is a picture. Any 600×600 picture. You can write gobbledee gook as long as the picture is the right size, you are published
i wrote an article about what the moderators appeared to do in the past. They don’t do quality and they don’t do grammar and spelling.
They just check and make sure the article is plagiarized and loosely as you said to make the pictures fits into the window.
Well Jalar thanks so much for your honesty. Perhaps you should start your own site. I would be interested in see that.
All this site needs is to appoint human moderators who are literate in English and have the capacity to ‘rank’ articles, so that whomever comes to the site sees great articles and is inspired.

The owners have no idea what they are doing. Their grasp of English is light at best. If there had been another site I’d of left here a year ago. Most people did.
Perhaps they could sell this site to someone who knows how to run it.

A few sites I know have been sold to others … the prob. with Virily is that the owners do not know what they are doing. It was evident from the first with their delay in publishing writers, in their demand for a picture of a certain size.
This is a ‘writing’ site. Isn’t the writing important?

They don’t understand English very well.
i have a translator that does 100% live translation from 155 languages around the world. English shouldn’t be a barrier any longer.
Now, Cantonese is still a small barrier, it is a tough language to translate.
I noticed that some people thought that the virus is the reason Virily has less views. But I know that wasn’t right, more people are at home and trying to find something do to. It only makes sense that views should be up right now, like those other sites you listed. I know Netflix has had a big increase as well. Thanks for touching on this subject Doc. And yes, I will try to do my part. Smile! 😉
People are desperate for reasons. It has been six months of declining views. Carol (and her idea) actually had a bump in January but since then it has been down.
I suspect we will end up limping along for a while.
More voice calls every single day last week, than on mother’s day. Mother’s day is the number one calling day.
Gosh, I should have read this before I shared the death in my family. I am going to my room and trying to get my heart straightened out. I hope to return kinder, smarter, with eyes that aren’t filled with tears and be part of a solution rather than part of a problem.
