As kids we had to share umbrellas among siblings and invariably we got wet while going to school which in a way was good as nuns would send us home.
Those umbrellas were black in colour but pretty sturdy. We were later introduced to folding umbrellas which were trendy. We had several of them as we were by then working and had funds to squander.
That is history now as I am no longer prepared to tolerate those upturned umbrellas with the slight breeze that did that. Age has made me wiser in my ways and I have now gone in for the old fashioned umbrella that you see in the image. This umbrella has a wide sweep that protects me even when it rains heavily and is quite sturdy in that no heavy winds will do anything to it. It can also be easily opened and closed.

Do you still use folding umbrellas?

I try not to go out in the rain, but if i do I have these folding umbrellas in my bag which is use. I never try walking further if the wind is heavy.
I have just returned from a heavy downpour but had to use my umbrella just to get out of the shop and then get into the house through the gate. We had a hired vehicle. The maid came with me.
I generally have a raincoat with a hat that keeps out the rain. Umbrellas often blow inside out in the rain.
That is what many opt for but what happens if there is a sudden downpour and you are in the middle of a road?
I use very little umbrella … I have one in the car just in case … if it rains I simply don’t go anywhere on foot
That is a nice way not to open an umbrella (lol)
But if I happen to go home with an umbrella and it stops raining, I come home safely without an umbrella … stay in the buffet
I have changed to the inverted umbrella and it still folds in form.
Good for you. They must be really sturdy to withstand heavy winds.
