Captured these doves hangng out on my deck. They are very shy and hard to photograph. I was behind my patio doors with the camera.
If you look closely you can see (to the far left) on the deck railing is a few sunflower seeds. They love seeds and they are primarily seed eaters, not insect eaters like many birds.
Did you know that turtle dove is another name for mourning dove? I love hearing their soft sounds they make. When they lay eggs, it is almost always just two. Incubation takes just two weeks.
And these doves usually mate for life. Amazing to know that about these beautiful birds. If you ever see two doves, think about that. They have married for life.

We also have pigeons here, but I don’t know if they are exactly like that, my dear friend
Doves and pigeons are different, same family but these are a little smaller.
I was going to write, but wait, it’s not Christmas, but Doc kind of beat me to it. Lovely doves, and yes I did know they mate for life. How cool is that!
Yes Kim these doves are one of my favorites. My Dad told me years ago if you see just one, you know they lost their mate. How sad.

These birds are lovely and really like them, whenever I see them I am worried about the presence of the cats around here
I spray cold water on any cat watching birds, it doesn’t hurt them. Saves the birds for a brief moment
Good for you, cats can be a predator for all birds.
Are pigeons and turtle doves the same I wonder. We have loads visiting us.
Not the same, they are in the same family but different birds. The doves are usually smaller than the pigeons.

Feeding the sunflower seeds to the birds during the winter, on the deck is why I had so many spring birds.

This reminds me of our pigeon who stayed inside our home for 5 years.
I cannot imagine having a pigeon inside! Wow. The doves are so relaxing to watch.
Were you cleaning up behind the pigeon, or did he stay in a cage inside?

My Dad and I used to talk about the doves a lot. He has many in his yard too.
It always pays off to keep the glass well cleaned for moments like this. My favorite picture I have of these is a pair. Cheers!
