Tulip Poplar Facts

The tulip poplar tree is a popular one around here, and is the state tree. According to the Tennessee Blue Book.. The tulip poplar was chosen because it grows from one end of the state to the other and was extensively used by the pioneers of the state to construct houses, barns, and other necessary farm buildings. Kentucky and Indiana also recognize the tulip poplar as a state tree.

I was amazed a few years ago to see these lovely yellow blooms appear on the trees. I had no idea the trees would bloom. And the cool thing about the blooms is they are shaped like a tulip. Cool fact I learned by accident.

The photo was taken this morning. The blooms are just starting to appear on the trees. We had rain earlier this minting, you can see raindrops on the leaves.
