Good morning all, and welcome to the new Virily. Last summer, as a community we put together a new FAQ, and some functionality asks for the admin team. I captured all of those thoughts and sent them along to the admin team. The top two community requests from the author team when we did that was the ability to edit old posts and the ability to edit comments. The good news is we can now edit posts! The other top requests are out there still so maybe over time we will see the ability to block users, permanently remove comments, and the ability to edit comments. The good news is the admin team listened to some of our suggestions (at least we can hope they did since they implemented them!)
The poll issue (start a poll, add a picture, refresh, then do the rest of your work) appears to have been resolved. As the timeout issue also appears to have been fixed (start a post, then get distracted, and when you get back to the post you’ve been logged out (which you don’t find out until you try to do something on the new post or refreshed). In both cases please note, I had only tried this once. Let’s see where we are in a couple of days to determine if the site is now working.
The look and feel of the site are a little different that is interesting. At this point, the look and feel are more like the Facebook, Twitter, MeWe style of presenting the information. The functionality has changed just the visual way the data is presented (in the IT world we call that a view). The other thing that we asked for ages ago now was a cleaner notifications page. That was done; you no longer see a notification for graphic submission, comments you’ve made, and opening another user’s post. The notifications are more applicable now, in the sense that they only represent the notifications that are good to know (upvotes) and ones that require action by you (another author comments on your post).
The posted total in the profiles page (of your posts) is wrong. There are missing posts though. I suspect this will change.
I will always ask some poll questions and will share those with the admin team. Overall I am still wondering the site and using it, and I will update the team if I find anything.
I want to thank everyone that participated during the summer in the polls that we sent to the Admins. I don’t know if those emails were something that the admin team responded to, but at least one of our big asks was completed!
I hope everyone has a great Friday!

as promised these were sent to the admins this morning!
Interesting split for blocking users. Specifically, because there was no split for being able to permanently remove the comments of other authors, which effectively is the exact same thing.
It’s a positive thing they have implemented the edit feature on posts. It was my major concern. Thanks to you and others who sent our suggestions to the admin team. I like the look and hopefully, they will implement the others though I know it will take time.
i hope this is the first of many changes! We had a list of 10 things that I sent to the team.
sorry i hit post too quickly. I like the new look and feel as well!
I hope they will work on the list you sent them for the better good of the community.
well i do as well i want to be able to block users going forward.
Thanks for making the post about changes, some of the modifications had been not noticed by be because I had a hiatus from Virily in summer. And thanks a lot for moving ahead the site’s optimization!
i am a member of the community just like you, not the admin team. I did send this including your compliment to the admin team.
Thanks!
the new look and feel is quite nice. as with any major rollout, bugs are expected…
I have been searching for old posts as well I want to see if some of the backend issues have been fixed.
if anything, it is worse for me. last week’s posts have already been stripped. this is a problem since it disrupts my workflow
really? stripped as in they aren’t on the site (if that is what you are saying, go to your profile and select the menu button) if the images are stripped that isn’t good at all.
the posts are there, the images aren’t
my gut is once they were stripped, that was it.
but remember, they can still be searched. ergo, they’re still around- the association is what has been broken
the GUID of the post and the GUID of the images would be different once stripped. ergo …
of the posts you’ve had stripped, have all of them been ranked lists?
mine have all been galleries, I don’t do ranked lists!
shoot. then I still don’t know what’s causing it
What about number of images.
my tech posts are untouched pictures = 1
my gallery posts are all wonky pictures = greater than 2
on my end, number of images doesn’t seem to have any correlation
I suspect since stories only have one, and one of my stories have ever been stripped that the number of pictures isn’t relevant but it is the reason.
So with quizzes and with stories, with polls, there is an image requirement. But the image, text and poll all would have one GUID.
other temaplates i don’t know.
trying an experiment, will let you know how it turns out
please do, watch your views for the next few days as well. Normally weekends are the higher view times…
will do, but still averaging three pages this month as opposed to ten pages of notifications per day the rest of the year
notifications should be down overall because 1/2 the notifications were removed.
so already my metric is misleading
if you were basing it only on notifications yes. But notice the view ticker, that is more viable.
I think the view counter is off, overall but somewhat reliable.
can do that now, but don’t know what it used to be
you were in the same tier as I was –
normally 100 views in 48 hours or less for posts.
by that metric, only performing about half as well
that is what I am worried about. we are losing authors as well.
I don’t even know who to comment on … for me it’s a total confusion … before, as soon as I opened the post, I saw if I got a virily or not … now you don’t even see it so they can do whatever they want .. I am disappointed …
i am very sorry that it impacted you. I was worried about that. the communication of the system could have been a lot better, I agree!
I hope to get used to it … but it really bothers me not to see Virily when I open the post … and such a small font that I can barely see my glasses
it really is very difficult to read i agree!
We’ll see … leave time alone
we shall see, site speed is really reduced.
I had no idea we can now edit old posts, that’s amazing! They are definitely working on improving the site and our experience.
the good news is they have enacted most of our major asks so that is really good. The bad news is they don’t communicate.
I asked them 2 years ago actually include a banner so that when they made changes we would know. They did do that, one time. Not once since, oh well.
Could be worse I suppose.
Maybe they are still in the process and want to finish the changes before they announce them. I do agree that announcements are important though.
thank you for reminding me to look on the positive side of things. That really helped.
Glad to hear that! I feel that if they announce something now and there are still unfixed things, people will be even more disappointed. But they could still say that they are working on something, so I agree with you too.
we asked for the chance to edit posts – they added it.
we asked them to reduce the noise of notifications (up votes and comments are all that is left) – they did that
some good.
This is a great sign for me!
we got two good changes, i am hoping others are coming.
At first glance, I like Viril’s new look. I’m still “researching” what’s new, where to find a feature, etc. I will wait for the next changes, maybe we will do something about the comments.
i would love the ability to edit comments, but also permanently remove comments from specific users. that would really make the site much better!
I honestly like the new look of Virily. Indeed notifications have become cleaner, just a bit too large and less space-saving, well that’s so in my opinion. Some of the information you mentioned here is unknown to me and I haven’t explored it yet. Thanks!
Yes! The posted total on the profiles page – of our posts – is wrong, and I’m still confused before you confirm the fault here. The profile page also requires rewriting and I don’t know what to write there yet. However, I appreciate all the work that the admin has done.
i think the posts are mostly there. I have some of mine from the earliest days. But working on that pal! I think the look and feel makes Virily look like many other sites.
I said “Yes” that Virily now looks like many other sites. Is this the influence of trends?
I was trying to avoid answer that my only alluding to it, of course, you would find the string and pull it.
I do think this is in response to what we as a community asked for, but also in response to the new world order of web page design.
Facebook is more than just a social media site now. So yes I think this is in response but also most likely the addition of new team members for Virily that are just out of school or living in the world of Social Media design!
Indeed I also think that there are some new hands that have been involved in this change.
Pssst… I’m not pulling the strings, right?
first, my dear friend, there is nothing wrong with pulling strings!
It is an admirable thing to do.
I do agree that there are new hands involved. I just wish there were new voices involved tell us what is going on!
We all know that many have knocked on the door but no one has answered.
So of all the bugs I compiled and sent to the admin team over the last 5 months they have now fixed 5.
I am slowly going through my list of known issues and checking them off.
For example, now you can reply directly to a comment made on a picture from the notifications screen (in the past you had to open the post to reply to comments on individual picture comments).
That is great.
This morning however the site is dog slow. Slower than it has been in a very long time.
The changes have made some users very comfortable.
That means they opened the door and do something even though they didn’t say anything…
For me, I haven’t felt more or less comfortable (maybe because I haven’t explored much or made use of existing changes), but only see new looks as something nice.
i don’t have a great answer. I have seen a lot of disinformation about the changes but going through, there are still many bugs.
Thanks for the info Doc, I have sent emails asking for answers, nothing so far. ? Trying to be positive. And would love to be able to block users. That would be wonderful!
It really would make life easier to block users. I will send this to the admin team. They are researching (or so they said, ) the last last issue I sent them.
Blocking and deleting are valuable here.
that is one of the nice things about many other platforms!
Good to know I can edit a post. Now I need to learn how.
I have no idea if our ask caused this, but I am going to think it did!
