The Troubleshooting Poll

Let me first share my credentials. I worked as a helpdesk professional for three years. At the end of that period, I was managing the helpdesk. Since then I have spent many hours helping, designing and building knowledge articles for helpdesks. I understand technical troubleshooting. I have been doing it now for more than 30 years.

Troubleshooting isn’t always fun.

However, providing the people you are asking for help, with enough information for them to help you is critical.

Based on the many reported issues, let’s see what we can do to help our Virily Admin team fix some things!

  1. I connect to Virily from my phone. There are a few issues and it’s slower than normal, but it’s manageable. I’ll try connecting from a laptop if I have the time ☺. As for the helpdesk, I’m using one at my work. It helps a lot when dealing with problems ?

  2. At this point, it helps. At the very worst we will build a database of the issue and be able to see, use Internet Explorer if you have a PC and are getting this error. Workarounds are sometimes the best solution to nagging problems.

    • I suspect, knowing that things aren’t working the way they want them to, they are struggling as well to improve the site.

It can be scary when it appears everyone is against you!

But I would be curious as to why the admins would do things like what you’ve detailed, as you point out it seems incongruent.

    • yes, but they can also be connection based. The delightful reality of net neutrality being gone in the US, is that providers can choose to “empower” and “disempower” users based on the level of service they get.

        • Sadly, it is another thing that has to be evaluated and crossed off the list. If, your provider changes the priority of your network connection, the timeout that results from that will impact sites that are time-dependent, such as Virily.

          • I agree that it can be an issue we have to deal with in the future but since that didn’t become even a possibility until last week, it couldn’t have been responsible for any of the bugs we experienced before then

Probably should’ve been clear about that in my previous reply

          • If any ISP was pulling that nonsense before the 11th, they’re open to a class action lawsuit. Even now they’re probably still open to it since that’s all technically breach of contract…

        • Sadly, they were doing other things long before the net neutrality act was “repealed.” Most of them had a number of ways to artfully provide you with lesser service.

          • And now it is totally legal. As are monopolies, apparently. Or federal judges were sick the day they taught the Sherman Anti-trust Act in law school…

  3. It is difficult to troubleshoot on your own if you’ve no knowledge…
For me, I can only check that the internet connection is not down.
