The spice that fights the development of Alzheimer

Currently, there is still no cure or an exact form of prevention against the development of dementia, and in particular of Alzheimer’s disease.

However, a team of scientists at the University of California, United States, has found that cinnamon has numerous benefits for the proper functioning of the brain and neurons.

– Cinnamon contains two compounds that protect the Alzheimer’s brain: cinnamic aldehyde and epicatechin.

– The action of these two compounds is inhibiting the accumulation of a harmful protein in the brain, which is the cause of the disease.

– Tau proteins that generate the various types of dementia cause difficulties in neuronal interconnection. These alter the union of certain brain structures.

– What cinnamon does, thanks to its essential compounds, is to prevent these changes.

– Another factor to consider is the relationship between Alzheimer’s and diabetes: almost 70% of people with type II diabetes develop Alzheimer’s.

– There are many studies that show that cinnamon has positive effects in people with type II diabetes.

– If we consume 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon twice a day for 40 days, we will reduce blood sugar by as much as 29%.

However, scientists point out that more research is needed now to better understand the impact level of this spice, and how spice might eventually be the basis for the creation of certain drugs against the disease.
