I am a long time CrowdFunding fan. I have funded many projects. One of them was the Keecker shown in the picture today. There are many other projects I’ve backed over the years. So many that I am normally listed as a superbacker. That means I have been part of 100 or more campaigns. Campaigns fail, it is after advanced technology that I tend to back. Some arrive, like Keecker, Loomo and others exceeding expectations. Some arrive, and I wonder why did I back it. Some never arrive at all, the ambition of the project greater than the ability of the delivery. Over the years I’ve found a 21% failure rate for Indigogo campaigns and roughly an 8% failure rate on Kickstarter.
Look crowdfunding is a risk. If you choose to back a campaign, you are making that choice. When you are a superbacker, and you put forth negative information about a campaign it has a bigger impact than a first time or second-time backer. The higher you are up in the system, the more you have to measure what you say. I don’t often post critiques of campaigns starting well, I’ve backed 20 campaigns like this, and they all did this. There is no value in that type of feedback. What I do is what I used to do and still do when it comes to software problems. You see no matter how good a developer is; there are always issues with the software. The reality of combination always bites you.
I was at an Automobile Manufacturer with a VP from the company I was working at, talking to the CIO of the company about embracing our software. The CIO looked at us and “Do you developers write software as the Admin of their box (that is the highest authority you can have on a computer, you can make all changes).” Our VP said “yes.” The CIO said that is why we can’t buy your software; you don’t build it the way we use it.
I learned a valuable lesson that day. The first is, be careful what you say. You may not like the answer you get back. The other thing I learned is the importance of being honest and making sure you share the right information. The other side of that equation is that you share both sides. The VP went back to the company HQ and changed how developers built the software going forward. The influence of a CIO of a major company, being frustrated was enough to make major changes. But I want to point out that most of that meeting was very positive. The CIO also, once the change was made on our side, deployed our software and gave us a great reference.
Positive about us, because we listened to the CIO’s problems and acted positively.
I do not trust anyone that only posts negative information about a topic or group. They are not telling the whole story and that is wrong.

Yes, I can say that I am. I had a great relationship with all the customers. We cooperated great.
That is an awesome achievement! The relationship between sales and customer is so important.
Consider the source is the real golden rule
in fact it is, it is why I double check the news!!!
double check everything. it only takes twice as long until you miss something, and then you’ll find it would’ve saved you all the time you just lost…
Many years ago I gave a talk at a high school. One of the students waited after the speech to ask me a question about the technology I had demonstrated.
“I have the same thing at home, and it doesn’t work the way you just demonstrated.”
I still mentor that person, they are going to be president someday (I hope)!
can they start tomorrow?
sadly they have not reached the constitutional requirement to serve as US president (they are not yet 30)
I thought that was 45. Anyway, I am ready to make an exception, just this once
Since she is 29, I know it isn’t old enough! 🙂
get her on as VP, impeach the sitting prez and sorted!
Sadly per the US constitution, you have to be 35 to be president (and same for Vice President).
I suspect, however, having lived through the last crisis like this, impeachment may not be a good solution.
you know he’s just going to do another shutdown, right? he’s unqualified for the job, so what other solution is there?
I am not sure there is anyone on earth qualified for that job anymore. But I do tend to see the tea leaves and right now, they are pointing away from another shutdown. The GOP is worried after the hit they took on the last one.
he’s not really GOP though, he doesn’t have to toe the party line. he wants that wall as his legacy and I’m not sure he cares about a second term
my point is that he isn’t a career politician so you can’t use the standard predictive model here; political suicide isn’t really a disincentive
That is fair, an interesting point but I suspect the one thing you’ve not included is the ego.
If he commits political hari-kari, effectively his legacy will be tarnished no matter what.
Ego drives a lot of people.
I didn’t factor that since I am uncertain how to weight his ego. And also he is a risk taker, so might be willing to gamble. Hard to say, but we will know if he is willing to risk another shutdown in under a week
That will give us a solid data point no matter what
In fact, it will. I know that everyone I work with right now is terrified. I have friends who worked for 35 days without pay, and this Friday is their 1st payday in more than a month and a half. If it stops again, we will have a mass problem.
we will just have to wait it out with everyone else
I agree. We shall see. T-minus 4 days and counting.
I knew we would have to wait the full time to know for sure, but I thought there would be a strong indication one way or the other by now. Poker face is probably not a good sign…
Rumor today is a deal is on its way to be signed.
wondering how ugly that deal will be
It looks as though it will be signed. The deal includes 55 miles of fencing. I think if that fencing covers the dangerous areas (the desert where people end up dying) that would be a good thing.
We need a humanitarian wall that keeps people from making a bad decision.
a pointless gesture that the nation can’t afford. unless, is that coming out of the military budget?
That is an interesting question.
1. The wall must be built by DHS. They can hire the ACE (Army Corp of Engineers) and some of the money can come from the DOD discretionary budget, and the ACE budgets but the finish funding (paying contractors) must come from DHS.
2. The administration can shift money but a wall will take 10 years or more to finish not including the 2-3 years of a legal fight.
Yes, but you’ll notice budget cuts always come from NASA, PBS, etc but I don’t think any president has cut the military budget since Clinton…
Being open, honest, and understanding means a lot when dealing with people.
You said it much better than I did, open and honest is the way to go!
I worked 40 years with people (Sales Dept.)
I know what honesty means and a good attitude in dealing with people.
After 40 years of sales, amazing! That is very impressive. It means you are very good at customer service@
Yes, I can say that I am. I had a great relationship with all the customers. we cooperated very great.
People sometimes forget that sales people are critical!
