The movie: Gone Girl

Who, if not David Fincher, will please us with another brilliant thriller, which easily combines exciting movie entertainment and far from the cheerful subtext, for those who want to dig a little deeper. And all this, of course, is framed so masterly that pretentious timing is absolutely not a problem here.

In the prologue, you can hear three main questions to which Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) would very much like to receive answers. And then – a glass of whiskey in his bar early in the morning in the company of his sister, returning to the house and detecting wife’s disappearance. In the first act, the picture very competently combines the events taking place in the present with neat flashbacks voiced by first-person heroes, which can be used to trace the chronology of the development of relations between spouses starting from an acquaintance and ending with a gradually growing family crisis.

Moreover, each of these lines moves to its climax, but they do it synchronously. That is, the feeling of anxiety is growing, and harmony and carelessness are gradually dissipating – and this happens on both planes: in the past, we see how a happy couple squanders the ability to understand, and in the present, we watch how clouds gradually gather over Nick. He did not think that after some time he would turn out to be the main suspect in the case of the disappearance of his own wife.

At the same time, the film plays with the viewer, periodically throwing us new clues and twisting the intrigue until the turning point, which is probably the strongest twist of the film. After this, the nature of the story changes, passions run high – but it’s impossible to analyze the plot further, as this will entail hard spoilers for those who are not familiar with the novel.

Would I recommend watching it? Yes.
