As we move into the Movers project, I wanted to talk about the four kinds of movers on any site that features writers.
- Movers who move their posts
- Movers who bring external views to the posts of others
- Movers who bring internal (members) opinions to the positions of others
- Movers who bring external and internal (members) ideas to their posts
Group One
Of the four, the first one has the least impact on the overall community and the site in any way. They, the author in the first group, make money. They have posted high in the comment lists at times, But they don’t drive the posts of others. How can you tell if that is the case? Respond to a comment left by an author if they reply to 1 out of 5 of your replies, but you reply to all their comments. They are in that first category. You can check quickly to see if the person commenting is a group one author. They never have extended conversations on the posts of other authors, only on their own!
Group two
External views are much harder, ultimately. Why? They bring revenue to the site, but we don’t get credit for external lights. Still, as an author, it is always nice to get views!
Group three
This group starts comment threads. You can tell when they are on your post as they often comment three, four, or more times. That gains you as the author views and comments, and on your posts, you get paid for that.
Group four
The last group is the unicorn. The group that does what the other three do as well. You get the benefit of more views on your post (which helps the site overall) and comments and subjective views as well!
Now testing for these various groupings isn’t easy but can be done. The reality is, however, it is easier for you to realize what type of users you are dealing with. Watch comments, if you reply, and the author never replies, check to see how many posts they make in a period. That is a sure sign between lots of jobs and seldom returning comments that the user is in group 1. Groups 1 author only cares about themselves.
Let’s have some fun with this – rank the four types of movers in the poll.

I don’t know where I fit in this breakdown. This is so very interesting to me though. I try to live by the golden rule, but it is very hard online, much harder online than in person.
i think most of us float between groups 2 and 3, there are a couple of people that are in group 4 but that group has always been light here.
I try to obtain external views because it will help bring the viril ratio back to where it needs to be.
i agree that is a great way to look at it!

thanks to everyone that responded to the survey!
I have seen all these groups, I think I fit into some.
i think you fit into 3 pretty well! you have long conversations on your own posts and on the posts of others!
in the new world that is gold!
Today I am going to talk about how to move from one group to another!
Ooops, I can see where I belong. And it’s only in one group.
Your review of the site’s move makers is right to the point.
thanks – so if you only fit in one group you can follow today’s post and do the things to change out!
Yah. I hope to do so very soon. With the Internet speed fluctuating, it’s becoming difficult to access the Internet.
we do what we can do, sorry about your internet
Thank you. It as a result of the change of weather and where I’m currently residing whereby the network is so low.
that and often between 100 and nearly 120% more traffic on the various global networks every single day!
That is a very huge traffic causing the jams we witness. Don’t the servers get heated up or somehow their functions affected?
the servers and the network can take it, sadly it is the occasional burp that causes mobile devices to freak out.
Ok. Nice to know that. Thanks.
happy to help! it is funny we have devices called smartphones. We have connections to the internet.
but the connection offered in most cases isn’t a smart connection.
Somehow they have made accessing internet easier as in my case. Although they have some challenges as opposed to computers
yes, the LTE world is much easier than either the traditional cabled or fiber network. Many nations built cell towers to offer that service.
the issue will be how did they build and cable the towers. That, lack of infrastructure will slow 5g.
I have noted that. The lack of that infrastructure will slow down 5G though I’m hearing news the 5G will make it easier for governments and agencies to gain our information in seconds.
I promise it does not. It is the same telcos then (5g) as now (4g) so, if your carrier allows the government access now, they will have your information now. If they don’t allow the government access then, it stays the same.
That’s a relief. Thankyou for alleviating me of this fear.
it is a fairly common fear – don’t worry. The reality is what happens today, will likely happen with 5g. But governments won’t have any more access than they do today.
I shudder at governments’ intrusions without permission. If that’s the case, then our personal.information are at least safe.
if you are careful and pay attention to the security of your devices you are likely ok. however, if someone wants to get your data, it most likely will be a hacker not the government.
I met members from all groups. I try to work the same with all members.
i do as well! it is frustrating sometimes to work with people in group one above.
I agree. Some are really “impossible” (I won’t say anything worse 😊)
i understand, and I support your position of kindness. You are a very kind person!
Thank you very much for your kind words 😊
honestly, you are most welcome, I always look forward to reading your posts!
Explained very well. I have definitely seen all of the above. I try hard every day to be positive and comment and reply as much as time permits. Thanks for this breakdown.
my concern is helping people understand how to move form group one to the other three groups!
I believe I have seen all of these. I believe at one week or another I have been all of these. I don’t know that I am terribly consistent. Am I ?
you are not, you fit squarely in group three of four almost all the time!
Well, I would have to go back and see if three and four are a good thing now. I read that 8 hours ago!
so as a site we want lots of groups 2-4 group 1 focuses only on themselves. they earn and make money, but to quote the old adage, a trickle won’t raise a boat.
anyone that worries about what group they are in, normally isn’t in the group that has issues.
🙂
as a wise man once said those who worry about where they fit, normally aren’t part of the problem.
