The modern carolers

When I was young, carolers have their instruments to augment their voices when singing Christmas carols. Even if the voices were croaking it wouldn’t matter much because of the accompaniment of the instruments. The guitar is the most common and for the children it is the makeshift drum and the makeshift tambourine as well.

Times have changed. Carolers now just sing a short carol to be followed by the line “Namamasko po” which means they came for the Christmas gift. That means the carolers are blatantly asking for money or treats from the house owner. Really, times have changed for the worst. It is really sad that the tradition of caroling is now being given a new color, that is for asking something.
