The five healthiest vegetables

Vegetables contain dozens of important nutrients and have a large amount of dietary fiber. Consuming five to nine servings daily, you are helping your body build an immunity barrier against pathologies such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

And yes, all vegetables are beneficial to the body, yet the Medical Daily publication listed the ‘super five’ against the development of possible diseases.

Broccoli – Few foods have as great a potential to combat diseases as broccoli. This vegetable has antioxidants that help reduce the risk of lung, stomach and intestinal cancer. And because this vegetable is rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C and folic acid, it is also a great ally to boost your immunity against cold sores.

Brussel sprouts – These small green vegetables are especially important for pregnant women as they are filled with folic acid, a type of vitamin B that prevents neural tube defects. Brussels sprouts are also rich in vitamins C and K, as well as potassium, fiber and omega-3 (healthy fatty acids).

Sweet potato – This vegetable has dozens of anti-cancer nutrients like vitamin A, C and manganese. Sweet potatoes are also a great source of fiber and iron, which gives energy and helps regulate the digestive system.

Pepper – Red, orange, or yellow, no matter what is preferred, bell peppers are packed with heart-enhancing nutrients like folic acid and lycopene.

Spinach – This type of vegetable is an excellent source of vitamin with almost all the nutrients that the body needs to function effectively. Scientists believe that a diet rich in spinach may be able to prevent many types of diseases, from heart disease to colon cancer, arthritis and even osteoporosis.
