The Blooming Beautiful Moonflower

For the first time I have been able to grow abundant moonflower blooms in my garden. I guess I just figured out  accidentally where to plant them to get the right blooms, or it could be due to the weather patterns this season.

Moonflowers are not only considered the most romantic flowers when  their trumpets open up at nights it is truly a gorgeous, surreal sight. They open at dusk and stay open until the sun comes up. However, I have discovered that planting them where they get the morning shade and late afternoon sun, means you get to enjoy the blooms all day until evening.

The large, beautiful trumpet shaped flowers are are also fragrant. If you are enjoying your backyard at nights as I do, it is a real delight to see these striking white flowers unfurl before your very eyes. There are several varieties  of the moonflower and they can grow like a vine up to 8 feet. The foliage is just as breathtaking as the flowers. In warmer zones it is a perennial but in colder zones it grows as an annual.

    • Let me know if it blooms indoors because here in the Outaouais valley the winters are cold enough (so the heat in the house is fairly high) and the summers are so hot and muggy (so the air conditioning unit is full blast). Whereabouts in Canada are you if I may ask? And do not worry, a new website is always daunting and confusing to either write on, answer comments or whatever.

  1. I have to say I had never heard and even less seen such a beautiful flower with a gorgeous foliage such as this one. As a night person, myself, it would be great for me. I wonder if they bloom indoor because here in Canada, it is not a tropical country, so I do not know if they could grow here. But if they do grow indoors, they will certainly be on my list to get.
