I saw the name I just had to find out what a spookfish was. This is a ghostly-looking fish that makes its home in deep waters. It has the most bizarre eye structure where each eye has a lateral swelling known as a diverticulum that is separated from the main eye by a septum. The main part of its eyes functions like the eyes of most animals but the diverticulum part has a curved, composite mirror that consists of many layers of guanine crystals.
This part can gather light more than a regular eye and when reflecting light the result is that the fish can see both up and down at the same time. Sort of like a mirror reflection. The spookfish supposedly is the one vertebrae to have this mirror eye structure. The spookfish spend their time in a depth of 1 –2,000 meters so they are rarely seen. They feed on small crustaceans and plankton.

Thank you for sharing this RasmaSandra. I have never seen one and I hope to some day.
Hey, did you finally get that video on the bluebird singing?
I have seen a ghost fish but this one is very spooky. 🙂
I haven’t seen this fish before. It really does look a little unusual.
Since you believe in ghosts this fish should interest you more (lol)
I not only believe but know there are spirits in this world Grace but this fish has nothing to do with any of that. Just a very interesting name and a spooky-looking fish.
