The Koels are the first birds to welcome the dawn. This is the female bird, the male is black, jet black with red brooding eyes.
These birds are known to lay their eggs in the nests of other birds and rightly called brood parasites. They belong to the family of Cuckoos. These birds are found in the Asia , Australia and Pacific regions.
Among the birds I think the female koels look much better than the males, But then beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
These birds are very shy and its rather difficult to see them out in the open. However, these is possible very early in the morning.

It is the way some birds are….I don’t like it but that is the way it is.
less work to lay your eggs in someone else’s nest!
I work hard to build my nest.
it is the balance we have to make in life!
Interesting bird and odd they don’t build their own nests,
yes, very odd indeed, Lazy bird.
Not good when they don’t build their own nests.
Not a nice thing really.,
I have a digital images folder dedicated to these birds that visit us every day. They are very fond of the noni fruit. Their chirps are quite soothing
They are the wild figs here. that is the tree they live on. I bet they would eat any fruit.
We have various types of fruits including wild figs but these knit wits only go for the noni. (lol)
Just watch this jet black cuckoo eating the noni fruit
