    • The secret place one goes to when preparing food is such a hallowed place and seems even more special, somehow, when your ingredients are limited. After all, the Pizza, the Curries, the Burrito’s, the Tortillas, stews, and Caserols are all born there, not so? Thanks for reading and commenting, Carol. Have a safe weekend.

  1. To tell the truth, I haven’t cooked a meal for years. I used to cook simple recipes for myself.

When mom was ailing, I would cook our meal sometimes. I don’t do complicated dishes, just the simple ones. But I agree cooking could be relaxing.

  2. Yes, I agree with you. Preparing food can be really meditative. Though I am not really good at cooking, I think preparing simple food for the family is good too. I’m happy when my kids enjoy simple and plain food.

    • The complicated stuff is exactly why so few want to cook anymore. Next to mother’s milk, eggs are the most nutritious substance we can eat. Brown and white rice are full of niacin and riboflavin, (vital building blocks) Coconut oil, chock full of antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal fighters and lettuce. A large non-stick pan and you are good to go.

First, in go’s a tablespoon of coconut oil (as healthy as eggs). Next, in go’s the rice, stirring al the time, until light brown. Next, add some eggs, scrambled, in the pan. turn down the heat and stir in a cup of hot water. Allow to simmer, flavor to taste. Spoon out generous portions onto lettuce leaves. Voila! Variations of this dish are endless like adding, onions, garlic, zucchini, eggplant, carrots, green peppers, meat, fish, poultry. This is the kind of simple stuff Andrew Weil is talking about, one-pan meals.

    • Hello Andria, I absolutely agree this is why I said, pорulаr fооd shоws роrtrау сооkіng аs соmреtіtіvе. І’d rаthеr іt bе іnvеntіvе. Looking through the comments above, it seems the good Doctor and I are not alone. Thank you for reading and commenting and happy cooking!

  3. I cook for my family every night. It depends on where and how long I worked, what the meal is. Some days I cook big meals, and others, it is something simple. It’s much healthier to cook and eat at home.

    • Absolutely, and your family is so fortunate to have a mom working and doing the cooking too. My mom had to work too and that’s how I became handy in the kitchen. My mom showed me that the real trick about cooking is to make the mess and then to clean up too. I guess, it just stuck with me for all of these years. There was one time back in the day, when I was the army camp cook, doing meals three times a day for 60 men, I did need some help there, flipping 70 burgers, (homemade ground-beef patties) in 100 degree jungle summers and serving them too, would have been a bit over the top. Lol.
