The aye-aye is a nocturnal animal which is kind of like a small lemur. These nocturnal creatures live on trees on the island of Madagascar. They have dark brown or black fur, big, bushy tails and with their big eyes, they can see in the dark.
On each of their hands, they have one very long finger they use to tap on tree branches and wood pieces. By tapping they can hear insect larvae moving inside the wood. When they know it is there they just scoop it out and have a meal.
They are omnivorous so they eat insect meat and also plants. Aye-ayes can also use their long fingers to scoop out food from coconuts and other kinds of fruit. There are people who think that aye-ayes are spooky creatures. Unfortunately, they are threatened by habitat destruction so there are laws protecting them.

The claws look weird – so uneven. This animal is new to me.
I didn’t know that there is such an animal.
I have seen one, I believe, at a zoo years ago. I love all animals.
Well, I never seen it and I am still trying to figure out if I think it’s cute! oh my.
That is a funny name. I have never seen it nor heard of it. With many African tribes preferring bish meat, it’s a good step the government has undertaken to protect them.
Yes they have the cutest little face but those long fingers do look a little bit creepy. I am happy to hear that they are being protected as I think every animal deserves protection just like any human…
His strange fingers remind me of the movie ET and that little alien.
