A couple of days ago I was in my garden tending to the veggies, I noticed a lonely Drongo on the high tension wires. It has been here in a last week or so. Suddenly I saw it swoop and catch something in midair. I know that drongos feed on tiny insects and rodents, but I thought this one caught a sunbird. Anxiously I took out m y camera to get a better view and it did look like a bird at first.
I took as many pictures as possible and latter when I saw the pictures in my laptop it looked like a bat. I was happy that a bird was not eating a bird. Sadly the bird was quite a distance away from me , but it was enough to tell me what the bird was having for breakfast. I was pretty excited about it and wanted to share this here. I am sorry the pictures aren’t so great but it will give you an idea of how drongos live.

I am like that about birds from your side of the globe, I read everything that is posted about birds here.
Have not heard of this bird but a great capture.

I have never even heard of one. It’s intersting that they eat bats. We have very few bats here. They would be hungry.
They eat other insects as well, we don’t have too many bats here either.
I read that they are going to try and transplant some bats here. I don’t know how that will work.
i didn’t know they ate bats. I am curious why it would be holding the bat that way.
The drongo was shaking the life out of the bat and it was trying to bite the bird. The drongo held the bat tight and pecked away eating bits of the bat even while it was live. That is what I saw.

It wasn’t a pretty scene, but I was glad that it wasn’t one of those tiny sunbirds.
bats eat so many insects every day. But it is life.
