For Sky Sunday challenge, I am sharing a photo of a smokey sky I captured from my friend’s 4th floor balcony overlooking a shopping center and stadium. I wasn’t sure exactly where the smoke was coming from at the time or how serious it was.
While I saw no fire one always assumes that where there is smoke there is fire and I was hoping that everyone in the area was safe. I found out later that there was a fire but not serious. It was a culvert fire in the area that sent thick black smoke over the shopping center and stadium area. The biggest concern was that the smoke could be toxic and nearby residents were evacuated.

Have you ever witnessed a serious fire?

Yes

No

I haven’t experienced a fire yet. But in the area there were a few fires including hazardous waste landfill.
I guess that is one reason it is called hazardous waste and the fumes can be toxic.
Yeah , California Jungle fire
I hear there are a lot of forest fires in that area
thanks for the photo. Yes, we had a fire here in Onehunga, where some one set fire to a building of Mitre 10 a local hard ware store.
The place where it was is still vacant and that fire was deliberately lit.
I hope the caught the culprits but then it isn’t easy to find those people,
Glad it was not worse than that but of course, toxic smoke is always a problem.
True, toxic smoke is a different kind of problem but apparently all ended well.
There are no flames which means the fire is controlled – just a hunch
I guess by the time I saw it it was all smoke.
That’s air pollution captured in the photo.
You are right and there was a real fear that the smoke was toxic
The picture is really not a promising good … well, no fatalities
No fatalities but there was concern about toxic fumes.
I am glad it wasn’t a serious incident. I don’t like it when I see smoke in the sky as it’s usually something not so good is happening. It’s either smoke from the factory, from people burning or something is in fire.
There is always a fear and concern when you see smoke in the sky
Looks like a lot of smoke. I have witnessed a fire sadly in my neighborhood once. Nobody was killed but they lost everything.
It is a real tragedy when lives or everything you own is lost in a fire. I have witnessed some forest fires but no one was harmed.
