We often injure ourselves or for some other reason need compresses that relieve swelling, pain. But do you use hot or ice compresses? It depends on what we need them for, so what happened to us and what our goal is.
Hot compresses are the best choice when you need to relax your muscles, body, and mind. Heat widens the veins, accelerating blood circulation, relaxing muscles and relieving pain. Heat also relaxes the joints and diseased muscles, and in general the whole body, making it an ideal choice for pain, tension, tension headaches, and various chronic problems and pain.
Ice compresses soothe damaged tissue, reduce swelling, inflammation, and pain, making them the ideal choice for injuries at the site of injury. Ideally used immediately after the injury. Thus, we stop the moment of further swelling, inflammation, and pain so that they do not develop further. Ice is also recommended for migraine headaches, sprains, and general sports injuries.

When I was playing golf (high school) our coach always said Hot then cold.
But later on, i read a number of studies that say in the case of injury cold first, to reduce swelling then hot the begin healing!
Thank you so much for your additional information.
happy to read and share what I know, I have the links to the studies if you would like

As far as I can remember, it always worked
At physical therapy it’s heat to relax, work the muscle and then cold to recover.
