Sienna Sunrise ~ Nature Tuesday

Sharing one of my Nandina shrubs with you. I have these shrubs planted beside the front steps. They have pretty foliage. Greens mixed with some burgundy, as the season progresses. This photo is also being shared with today’s Nature Tuesday challenge.

There are many types of Nandina. The one I have is called Sienna Sunrise. Nandina shrubs display bright red fall foliage, and many varieties also provide beautifully colored new growth in spring. Sienna Sunrise is one such variety, putting on a spring show with its blazing red foliage and displaying red highlights in fall. Sienna Sunrise grows 2 feet wide and 3 to 4 feet tall.

I just learned this important fact while researching today: Nandina leaves and berries are toxic and may be harmful to birds, humans, grazing animals and cats.

I’d like to edit comments … sometimes people type things without thinking … it can happen to me when I lose my cool or someone else for various reasons … if ones realises that what she type is not nice or simply could be misunderstood, she could edit it before it “hurt” others … just what I think

    • Yes it is, I like them at the front. And the foliage is nice as the season progresses. No, it is mostly green now, a few browns mixed in. 🙂

    • Thanks. Have read on other sites it is not toxic, so I don’t know. I have had them for many years and it hasn’t bothered me. I have my cats indoors and the birds seem fine.

  4. Very pretty! 🙂 Yes, it’s the little things… It’s very hot and humid here right now so my favorite thing to do is to take evening walks and rides out near the water 🙂 It’s almost that time of evening here 😀

  5. Lovely shrub, very decorative. On another site, we can edit the comments and it is really great because when writing the comment I don’t always notice I made a mistake until I have posted it and reread it.

  6. I love that shrub, Carol. It’s very pretty. And yes, I think it would be useful if we could edit our comments, as sometimes I don’t notice I’ve made a mistake until after I’ve posted it.
