In our culture the seafood is a healthy food provided it is fresh. Maybe the sea water made the seafood healthy with iodine that can prevent goiter. The freshness is one good reason why crabs and prawns are expensive.
However, in my adult years there came an issue with seafood. That thing called red tide is a poisonous algae that can make the shellfish poisonous too. Mussels, oysters and even crabs have made people sick. Now we are scared of eating seafood.
