Saturday Critters – Orange Beauty!

Yesterday I went to the Ialomita valley to pick elderberry flowers. I want to make Socata! The place I was in is a bit wild with high grass and many bushes. Of course I did not miss the opportunity to look for small creatures through the grass! Take a look at who I met !!! A small orange creature of only 2-3 cm long. I’m not sure if it’s a Small Skipper (Thymelicus sylvestris) or a European Skipper (Thymelicus lineola). It’s the first time I saw it.

But any of them would be, it’s very nice to look at! Can you help me identify this small creature?

  1. That’s a lovely photo, Ileana. The juxtaposition of the textures of leaf and wing is a real pleasure to observe! What did you do with the elder blossom you collected? Here they are not quite open, but soon I will make ice-cream from them 🙂

    • Thank you, Norman! I never tried ice-cream (I do not know recipes). I’ll make “Socata” ( a soft drink produced by the natural fermentation of elder flowers in a lemon and honey solution) and I’ll dry some flowers for tea!
