Saturday Critters – Green woodpecker – The forests' doctor

Woodpecker family is an old and widespread species on almost the entire surface of the planet. The approximately 200 Woodpecker species in the world live in forests or tree habitats, although some species have adapted to living in tree-free areas such as deserts and rocks. Green woodpecker is a delight to the eyes of those who meet it. It is strange, but this beautiful bird, a regular presence in forests, is found “oversized” in Romanian popular mythology, in the form of an evil character, who destroys trees and fills the plains with human bones.

I have taken this picture in Chindia Park
