Sandals and socks: When the fashion sin becomes the ultimate chic

Each of us surely remembers the unwritten rules, probably somewhere written, that a truly fashionable sin is to wear sandals over socks. The fact that summer wear was carried exclusively at the back of the leg was a sacred rule, until last year, Kendal Jenner did not stroll through the red carpet in Cannes and with a thin belt sandal, she paired transparent, colorful socks.

As it usually happens, the model did not devise her appearance by itself, but it is Marni Senofont’s work, a stylist who designed the entire visual identity of Bijonse’s album “Lemonade”. And while they were horrified by these combinations, suddenly everyone started to like it even when cold-sized thick socks keep their favorite sandals for the summer.

This summer, if you want to be guided by the designers presenting for the new season, wear more striking stockings of interesting design.

  1. My grade school teacher defined the word incongruous as someone wearing bobby sox with high heels. Back then it was unthinkable, but now fashion is about being different. I think people should wear what they find comfortable and not worry too much about what other people think.

  2. Sandals are the oldest and most commonly found foot covering worldwide. Archaeological examples, uncovered from the Anasazi culture of the American Southwest, date back 8,000 years. These plaited and woven sandals provided a flexible protective sole and utilized a simple V-shaped strap.
