Rose Cactus

Pereskia grandifolia is a leaf cactus which can deal with a lot of neglect. It is also called the rose cactus because of its rose like buds and blooms. These come in a few colors pale yellow, pink and deep orange. I think the orange is the most spectacular of the three though it doesn’t bloom in bunches like the other two.

These plants have thorns and can grow into bushes. They are best planted where there is sun all day long.  These plants need no re poting at all. They do fine enough even if you replenish the top soil once in a while and add some fertilizer once a month.

The stems of these plants can be used as the base for cacti grafts as well. These plants do not take well to over watering and can develop root rot.

Reproduction by stem cutting is by far the easiest way to grow more plants. Rose cactus make great hedges  and keep critters away.
