Roasted chestnuts for the Christmas season

The chestnut is an imported food item that it only appears during the Christmas season. Sometime it comes as early as October but that depends on the importer. The roasted chestnut is the most popular here that it is roasted right on the side of the street. But the roasting is by the use of a vat with small stones to make the roasting even.

For Christmas day, one of our usual assignment for the family reunion is the roasted chestnuts. We always buy 3 kilos so there will be something to munch on while waiting for the Christmas lunch. So whenever I hear the song Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, that is alien to us because we do not do the roasting here, just the eating.
