Red-Eyed Mothman

There are those of you who will remember that in the 1960s many people both kids and adults enjoyed watching the series, Batman. Well in 1966 there were people who started seeing the Mothman. Perhaps some of them had bats in their belfry or maybe not. The Mothman was described as a creature with wings and red eyes. It could be that Batman had insomnia or perhaps it was a publicity gimmick.

People were beginning to wonder if Batman could save them from the Mothman. Yes, well it does get rather confusing. The sighting of this unusual creature went on for several months. What the people who said they saw the Mothman, were seeing a creature about seven feet tall with a wingspan of over ten feet, its skin was gray and scaly and it had large red, glowing hypnotic eyes. I would probably have nightmares if I saw something like that.

Things get even weirder because supposedly the Mothman can take off and shoot straight up into flight and without flapping its wings it can take on speeds up to 100 MPH. Actually that sounds so interesting I would have liked to see it myself. Its activities included mutilating and eating large dogs, squealing like a rodent and at times sounding like an electric motor. The creature loved to chase cars, nest in remote, unpopulated areas and caused TV and radio interference. The one thing to like about it is that it was attracted to and protective of small children. The Mothman was mostly seen in Vermont and in Point Pleasant, you can see a statue of him as in the photo. The statue is located in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
