Reading Vs Understanding Vs Applying

Just a few days ago, I was “helping” my sister with her assignment because well, she is really running out of time. (Now, now, let’s put the ethics discussion aside)

Anyway, my “mission” is to read a few chapters of her textbook and help do some e-learning… I thought it won’t be as difficult but…

I haven’t been someone who enjoy reading, so it took me many days (2 days) to just do 3 quizzes and 2 shot questions.

I realised the different between reading and understanding and then applying. It takes a lot to be able to just read a textbook, without previous knowledge (of the subject) or interest, to fully be able to understand and apply the theories…

  • Question of

Have you tried “self-learning” through reading?

    • Yes
    • No
  • Question of

    How do you find it?

    • Difficult but fun
    • Not fun at all
    • I rather go for classes

  1. I help my grandson with mathematics. Here is an important foundation. Mathematics is an exact science. And for reading, everything else should be excluded from the “brain” to get it right.

  2. I’m a self-taught person. I often read to compare it with my imagination, thought, or idea. If I read something I have not read before, I will usually immediately raise questions in advance in order to be interested in finding the answer in it. If there is something interesting to do, I will try it to practice it or prove it. There are always obstacles such as loss of focus, boredom, or hard to understand if we are less interested indeed.

    • you’re right!
I probably wasn’t focused enough and I wasn’t too interested in the topic…
but thanks for the tips 😉

probably something I need to work on.
