Racing pigeons

We once had a pigeon that came to our doorstep. It stayed inside our home just like the dogs that we have. That was the time that I started a research on pigeons because we didn’t know how to raise that pigeon. That was also the time that I learned of the racing pigeons.

A racing pigeon is let loose in a distant place from home. It is expected to go back to the place of origin in a matter of time like hours or days maybe depending on the distance. In joining a race, there is an entry fee for the organizers that set up the racing pigeons altogether in one place. They monitor each pigeon and the winner gets a trophy. It looks like fun but I pity the pigeon who would fly for days without food and water. I think that is a sort of cruelty.
